Scard are a solo project from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of dark ambient, power electronics, death industrial and harsh noise with some touches of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Rusted Lock" which will be released in November by Scry Recordings.
Dark ambient soundscapes start off the album while synths and programmed beats can also be heard in some parts of the recording. A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the percussion also giving the music more of a militant industrial feeling w hen t hey are utilized.
Spoken word parts are also added into some parts of the music while the songs also mix in a great amount of power electronics and harsh noise elements. Black metal screams can also be heard at times along with some demonic voices also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as all of the tracks also sounding very different from each other.
Industrial style shouts are also a very huge part of the recording along with one track also introducing melodic chants and whispers onto the album as well as the slower sections of the music also showing an influence of doom metal, bass guitars and clean playing can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover personal strength, confrontation, obsession and the many forms of poison.
In my opinion Scard are a very great sounding mixture of dark ambient, power electronics, death industrial and harsh noise with some touches of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dancing With Rot" "Graveyard Dirt" and "Tainted And Estranged".8out of 10.
