The Oracle are a solo project from Worcester, Massachusetts that plays a mixture of drone, dark ambient, dungeon synth, experimental, industrial, minimalism, neo-classical and ritual with some touches of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Hypogeum" which was released by Repose Records.
Dark ambient style synths start off the album while the music also mixes in a great amount of cinematic sounding drones. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the percussion also giving the music more of a tribal, minimalist and ritualistic feeling and at times the music also gets very experimental sounding.
Elements of dungeon synth can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the programmed beats also add in touches of industrial. Electric and bass guitars are also mixed in with the calmer sections of the music at times along with all of the songs also sounding very different from each other.
The music also mixes in some of the dark atmosphere that you would also hear on a black metal album along with all of the tracks also being instrumentals as well as some lap steel guitars, piano's and classical music sounds also being utilized briefly and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion The Oracle are a very great sounding mixture of drone, dark ambient, dungeon synth, experimental, industrial, minimalism, neo-classical and ritual with some touches of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Born From The Mouth Of God" and "Bethlehem A.D". 8 out of 10.
