Sweden's solo project Desiderii Marginis has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of dark ambient and drone and this is a review of his 2020 album "Departed" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Atmospheric sounding drones and dark ambient style synths start off the album while the music also adds in a decent amount of cinematic soundscapes. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with a great portion of the songs also being instrumental and programmed beats also gives the music more of a militant feeling.
A lot of the music also sounds like it could pass as a soundtrack for a deep meditation or nightmare orientated soundtrack. On some tracks the synths also bring in a variety of many different sounding keys along with one song also introducing field recordings onto the recording as well as one track also adding in a brief use of melodic chants.
As the album progresses a brief use of clean playing can also be heard., when bells are utilized briefly they also bring in more of a ritualistic atmosphere and a small amount of saxophones and acoustic guitars are added onto the closing songs as well as the production sounding very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Desiderri Marginis and if you are a fan of dark ambient and drone, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Through A Forest Of Empty Armors" "Eternity Shrouded At the image Of Death" "Departed" and "Worlds Apart MMXIX". 8 out of 10.
