Russia's Nytt Land have returned with a new recording which continues the shamanistic and ritualistic style of Nordic folk music from their previous releases and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "Cvly".
Ritualistic spoken word parts and chants start of the album along with some folk instruments a few seconds later. The songs also add in a decent amount of programmed beats while the female vocals also give the songs more of a shamanistic atmosphere and a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Throat singing can also be heard one some of the tracks while the electric guitar leads are also done in a very melodic style. Black metal screams can also be heard briefly while the synths also b ring in elements of dark ambient when they are utilized and a powerful sounding bass guitar can also be heard in the background briefly.
Stringed instruments are also a very huge part of the recording along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of male vocals. Percussion style instruments can also be heard at times and they also enhance the ritualistic side of the music as well as the songs also getting more diverse as the album progresses. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover Nordic, Slavic Paganism and Siberian shamanism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nytt Land and if you are a fan of shamanistic and ritualistic Nordic folk music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Song Of Kazym Goddesses" "Seven Spirits in White Coats" "Sigrdriva spell" and "Song Of the Goddess Keeper" 8/5out of 10.
