Gjoad are a band from Austria that plays atmospheric rock with some touches of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Samanon" which will be released in December by Antiq.
Ambient style synths start off the album while the music also gets very atmospheric sounding at times. Clean playing can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with the percussion's also giving the music more of a tribal atmosphere and when acoustic guitars are utilized they also add in elements of folk music.
A couple of the tracks are also very long an d epic in length while some of the heavier riffing also shows an influence of black metal. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some folk instruments also being added into some parts of the music.
When the music speeds up a brief use of blast beats can also be heard along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. The music also shows an influence of post rock at times as well as some throat singing also being utilized briefly, one track also adds in a small amount of spoken word parts and a great portion of the music is instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the song themes focus on ancient legends and paganism.
In my opinion Gjoad are a very great sounding atmospheric rock band with some touches of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Peraht" and "Hagazussa". 8/5 out of 10.
