I, The Weapon are a duo from Argentina that plays an atmospheric mixture of sludge, doom and post metal with some elements of black metal and dark ambient and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "The Ivy".
Dark soundscapes start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. The slower sections of the songs also add in the heaviness of sludge and doom metal while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
The music also adds in a great amount of post metal elements while the music also gets very atmospheric sounding at times. Touches of dark ambient are also added into some parts of the recording along with some of the tracks also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts as well as another song also adding in a brief use of clean vocals.
Aggressive growling vocals are also a very huge part of the recording along with the music also capturing the dark atmosphere of black metal at times as well as all of the music also sticking to a slower direction. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover darkness and sadness themes.
In my opinion I, The Weapon are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of sludge, doom and post metal with some elements of dark ambient and black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sybil" "Vacuum" and "The Ivy". 8 out of 10.
