New Risen Throne are a solo project from Italy that plays a very dark form of ambient and this is a review of his 2020 double album "The Outside" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Atmospheric soundscapes and dark ambient style synths start off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard in some parts of the recording. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some of the songs also bringing in elements of post industrial and most of the music is instrumental.
The synths also add in a variety of many different sounding keys while one track also adds in a brief use of melodic chants and throat singing. At times the music also captures a very isolated yet cinematic atmosphere as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of drones, programmed beats can also be heard in some parts of the recording.
Some of the music also captures the atmosphere of a horror movie along with most of the tracks also sounding very different from each other. When percussion is utilized briefly it also gives the recording more of a tribal feeling as well as the second disc being all re-mixed songs which shows the quest artists mixing their own style in with the music of New Risen Throne, Gregorian chants can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark while the song themes focus on the human race beginning a journey in search of the causes that led to the end of the world.
In my opinion New Risen Throne are a very great sounding dark ambient solo project with some elements of drone and post industrial and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this double album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "What We Have Seen" "Birth Of A New Disciple" "Human Nihil" and "Withered Regions". 8 out of 10.
