The Joy Of Nature are a band from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of experimental and neo-folk and this is a review of their 2020 album "Until Only The Mountain Remains" which was released by Dornwald Records.
Acoustic guitars start off the album while also adding in a good mixture of full chords and finger picking. Musical bells can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with the second track also introducing stringed instruments and spoken word parts onto the recording and the music also adds in a great amount of neo folk elements.
Whispers can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the music also has its experimental moments. At times the music also captures a very poetic atmosphere along with one track also introducing clean vocals onto the recording as well as one of the songs also being over 10 minutes in length and as the album progresses a brief use of drum beats and electric guitars can also be heard and they also add in a touch of post rock.
On this recording The Joy Of Nature remains true to the experimental style of neo-folk that they had established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover nature, poetry and folklore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from the Joy Of Nature and if you are a fan of experimental and neo-folk, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rotten Axle-Handle Mountain" "The World Of Dew" "These Things Can Knock The Heads Of Everyone" and "Wait For Me By The Winter Stream". 8 out of 10.
