DAO are a solo project from Portugal that plays a mixture of dark ambient, experimental and noise and this is a review of his 2020 album "Desolate Landscapes" which was released by Gravacoes Tunguska.
Dark soundscapes start off the album while also adding in some reverbs along with the music also having its experimental moments. Noises can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with the tracks also mixing in a great amount of dark ambient elements and synths and the music sticks mostly to an instrumental direction.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while all of the songs also sound different from each other. Programmed beats can also be heard in some parts of the recording and also gives the music more of a minimalist feeling along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of harsh power electronics and as the album progresses a small amount of home made instruments, spoken word parts and field recordings can also be heard, throat singing is also added onto the closing song.
DAO plays a musical style that takes dark ambient, experimental and and noise and mixes them together to create a sound of his own as well as keeping most of the music instrumental while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion DAO are a very great sounding mixture of dark ambient, experimental and noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Desolate Landscapes 1" and "Desolate Landscapes 6". 8 out of 10.
