Farer are a band from the Netherlands that plays a mixture of sludge, doom metal and harsh noise and this is a review of their 2020 album "Monad" which was released as a joint effort between Tartarus Records and Aesthetic Death.
A very powerful sounding bass guitar starts off the album while the band brings in the rule of 2 bassists instead of having a regular guitarist. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the drums also adding more aggression to the music and the focus are all done in a very high pitched sludge meta; style.
The slower sections of the songs also bring in the heaviness of doom metal while drones and harsh noises can also be heard in some parts of the recording. Distorted sounding melodies are also added into some parts of the music along with some clean vocals also being utilized on a couple of the songs as well as some fast black metal style tremolo picking also being utilized briefly and as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard.
Farer plays a musical style that takes sludge, doom metal, drone and harsh noise and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The Production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover the brutal cycle of creation and destruction.
In my opinion Farer are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, doom metal, drone and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Phanes" and "Elpis". 8 out of 10.
