Ataraxia are a band from Italy that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of ethereal, neo-classical, ambient, goth, darkwave and ancient spiritual medieval music and this is a review of their 2020 album "Quasar" which was released by AnnapurnA.
Electric guitar sounds start off the album along with some spoken word parts a few seconds later while the clean playing also brings in elements of darkwave. Clean goth style vocals are also a very huge part of the recording along with some ethereal style female vocals also being added into some parts of the music.
When stringed instruments are utilized they also add in touches of neo-classical while a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Acoustic guitars can also be heard at times along with the drum beats also being programmed along with some spoken word parts also being added into certain sections of the recording.
At times the music captures a medieval atmosphere as well as remaining very modern at the same time. All of the tracks also sound very different from each other along with some songs also adding in a decent amount of clean playing and at times the music also gets very progressive sounding and as the album progresses a brief use of whispered vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover the seven archetypes, the five etheric elements and astronomy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Araraxia ad if you are a f an of darkwave, ethereal, goth, neo-classical and ancient spiritual medieval music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Iniziazione" "Sex Id A Prayer" and "Beyondness". 8 out of 10.
