Dagmar Gertot are a solo project from Russia that plays a mixture of dark ambient, experimental, neo folk and ritual and this is a review of their 2020 album "Os Lacrimale" which will be released on November 27th by Cyclic Law.
Folk instruments and operatic vocals start off the album while the music also gets very ritualistic sounding at times. On some of the tracks the music also goes into more of an experimental direction along with the stringed instruments also bringing in more of an avant garde atmosphere to the songs.
All of the tracks also sound very different from each other while one track also introduces Tibetan style instruments on the recording which also enhances the ritualistic side of the music. Other types of ethnic style instruments can also be heard on some of the songs as well as some classical style piano's also being utilized briefly and as the album progresses there is also a brief use of spoken word parts.
Dagmar Gertot plays a musical style that takes dark ambient, experimental, neo-folk and ritual and mixes them together to create a sound of her own. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover folklore, rituals and surrealism themes.
In my opinion Dagmar Gertot are a very great sounding mixture of dark ambient, experimental, neo folk and ritual and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Non Healing Wound" "Two-Headed Roe Deer" and "Anathema". 8 out of 10.
