Lunatic Soul is a solo artist from Poland that plays a dark mixture of Scandinavian and Slavic folk music and this is a review of his 2020 album "Through Shaded Woods" which was released by Kscope.
Acoustic guitars start off the album and also bring in elements of medieval folk music while percussion can also be heard at times. All of the vocals are also done in a very clean style along with some stringed instruments also being utilized quite a bit throughout the recording and at times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding.
The guitars also bring in a good mixture of both finger picking and full chords while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Programmed beats can also be heard in some parts of the recording and also give the songs a more modern style along with the electric guitars also adding in some melody when they are utilized.
When heavy guitar riffs are used on a couple of songs they also add an influence of metal onto the recording. All of the tracks also sound very different from each other as well as the music also having its shamanistic and ritualistic moments. Bass guitars can also be heard at times and folk instruments are also added into certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature, shamanism, Norse and Slavic Paganism themes.
In my opinion Lunatic Soul are a very great sounding dark mixture of Nordic and Slavic folk music with some elements of metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Navvie" "Summoning Dance" and "Hylophobia". 8 out of 10.
