This is another review of a recording from Spain's solo project Hiemis which is also in the mixture of dark ambient, drone and ritual and the album was released in 2019 by Noctinagent and called "Hyperborea".
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the album while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also stick mostly to an instrumental direction. At times the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding as well as the songs also adding in a great amount of ritualistic elements.
When synths are utilized they also bring elements of dark ambient onto the recording while the music also gets very diverse sounding at times. All of the songs also sound very different from each other as well as one track also adding in a small amount of female vocals which also gives the music more of an ethereal feeling and the tracks also bring in a very epic sounding atmosphere.
On this recording Hiemis mixes dark ambient, drone and ritual together to create a very diverse and ritualistic sounding album. The production sounds very dark while the song themes focus on the lost continent of Hyperborea and the writings of H.P Lovecraft and Clark Aston Smith.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hiemis and if you are a fan of dark ambient, drone and ritual, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Urbo-Sathia" and "Polarion". 8 out of 10.
