Italy's solo project Neraterrae has returned with a new recording which shows the music going more for a mixture of dark ambient, drone and noise and the album is called "Scenes From The Sublime" and was released in 2020 as a joint effort between Cyclic Law and Liberation Through Hearing.
Dark ambient style synths and soundscapes start off the album while programmed beats can also be heard in the background at times. The songs also add in a decent amount of atmospheric and cinematic sounding drones along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
All of the tracks also sound very different from each other while harsh noises are also added into some parts of the music. Most of the songs are also instrumentals along with one track also adding in some spoken word parts and throat singing which also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling and as the album progresses a brief use of female vocals can also be heard.
The songs also add in some collaborations from Alphaxome, Dodsmaskin, Leila Abdul-Rauf, Mount Shrine, Phelios, Phragements, Shrine, Shrine, Xerxes the Dark, Martyria, and Cober Ord. The production sounds very dark while the music is also inspired by ancient paintings and their meanings.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Neraterrae and if you are a fan of dark ambient, drone and noise, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Last Abjurer" "Passion Domain" "The Collapse of Matter And Time" and "Virtues of the Dawn". 8 out of 10.
