Phil Stiles is a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of industrial., electronica and post rock and this is a review of his 2021 album "The Anchorhold" which was released by Trepanation Recordings.
Programmed beats and industrial style synths start off the album while the music also adds in a decent amount of tragic sounding melodies. Vocals are also all done in a clean style along with the bass guitars also being a very huge part of the recording and the guitar riffs also add in a hard yet melodic style.
The solos and leads also mix in a good amount of melody while also showing some influences of metal. The songs also mix in a lot of electronic music touches along with some tracks also showing an influence of post rock as well as each track also sounding very different from each other, on some songs the vocals also bring in a more aggressive style and as the album progresses a few instrumentals can also be heard.
Phil Stiles plays a musical style that takes industrial, electronica, post rock and a touch of metal and mixes them together to create a sound of his own as well as using a variety of many different session musicians. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover frustrations and isolation themes.
In my opinion Phil Stiles is a very great sounding mixture of industrial, electronica and post rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I'm Not Done yet" "The Wanderer" and "It Follows me". 8 out of 10.
