Norway's solo project Picture Ann has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of experimental, lo-fi ambient and doom metal and this is a review of his 2021 ep "Gleams And Shifting Shadows" which was released by Floodgate Moods Productions.
Ambient style synths start off the ep while also adding in a variety of many different sounding keys. Clean playing is also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with one song also adding in some whispered vocals along with the music also getting very experimental sounding at times.
The melodies from the electric guitars also show an influence of doom metal when they are utilized while there is also a 3 part trilogy of songs. Most of the tracks are also instrumentals along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and all of the songs also stick to a slower direction.
On this recording Picture Ann goes into more of an experimental and lo-fi ambient direction as well as adding in touches of doom metal to create a very diverse sounding recording while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Picture Ann and if you are a fan of experimental, lo-fi ambient and doom metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Insect Room" and "Mountains". 8 out of 10.
