Corona Barathri are a musical project project from Russia that plays a mixture of ritual and dark ambient and this is a review of their 2021 album "Lapis Sacrificialis" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Dark ambient soundscapes and synths start off the album along with some whispers and spoken word parts a few seconds which also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling. Melodic chants can also be heard at times while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and when percussion is utilized they also give the songs more of a militant atmosphere.
Folk instruments can also be heard briefly while one track is brings in the sounds of fire burnings. One song also introduces female vocals onto the album along with some acoustic guitars also being utilized briefly as well as the bells also enhancing the ritualistic vibe of the music when they are brought into the songs, electric guitars can be heard briefly and also show some extreme metal influences and each track also sounds very different from each other and on the closing song a brief use of throat singing is also introduced..
Corona Barathri plays a musical style that takes dark ambient and ritual and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover Witchcraft, Occultism, Satanism and Demonology themes.
In my opinion Corona Barathri are a very great sounding mixture of ritual and dark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ad Rogum Suprermum" and "Terra Tenebroas". 8 out of 10.
