New York's solo project Gridfailure have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of experimental, ambient, field recordings and horror soundtrack music and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "When The Lights Go Out Vol. III".
Nature sounds and filed recordings start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding drones a few seconds later. At times the music also gets very experimental sounding while electric guitars can also be heard in some parts of the recording and noises can also be heard in certain sections of the album.
Most of the music is also instrumental while the synths also bring in the atmosphere of a horror movie soundtrack when they are utilized. Elements of ambient are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with t he heavier riffing also showing an influence of metal as well as some tracks also adding in some samples, percussion and power electronics.
All of the songs also sound very different from each other along with some of the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody. as well as some tracks also adding in the sounds of torture, clean playing can also be heard briefly. and the two closing songs are also very long and epic in length and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gridfailure and if you are a fan of experimental, ambient, field recordings and horror soundtrack music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Somnambulance Disorientation" "The Disappearing Floor" "The Shape" and "Ghostyards". 8 out of 10.
