Mortiis is a solo artist from Norway that is also one of the originators of the dungeon synth genre and this is a review of his album "Spirit of Rebellion" which will be released in 2020 as a joint effort between Omnipresence and Dead Seed Productions.
Percussions start off the album while both of the tracks are over the 20 minute length. Synths are also a very huge part of the recording and also bring in more of an epic dungeon synth style while also capturing the atmosphere of a fantasy movie soundtrack as well as the songs also adding in a decent amount of militant yet programmed beats.
Elements of neo-classical can also be heard at times while the music also gets very diverse at times along with the songs also adding in a great amount of changes. The synths also bring in a variety of many different sounding keys as well as the music also having its ritualistic moments, both of the songs also sound very different from each other and always sticks to an instrumental musical direction.
On this recording Mortiis makes a return to the dungeon synth style he became known for in the 90's while also moving away from the industrial rock/metal style he was playing for a few years as well as keeping all of the music instrumental and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mortiis and if you are a fan of this solo artist, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Visions Of An ANcinet Future". 8 out of 10.
