Albireon/A Mirror For Ashen Ghosts Part Two/Toten Schwann Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Italy's  Albireon  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  experimental,  ambient  and  neo-folk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "A  Mirror  For  Ashen  Ghosts  Part  Two"  which  was  released  by  Toten  Schwann  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  experimental  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clear  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  Ambient  style  synths  can  also b e  heard  at  times  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  brign  in  elements  of  neo-folk  when  they  are  utilized  and  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  finger  piking  at  full  chords.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  A  couple  of  songs  are  also  instrumentals  along  with  each  song  also  sounding  different  from  each  other  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  dark  atmosphere  as  the  recording  progresses,  grim  black  metal s creams  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Albireon  take  ambient,  experimental  and  neo-folk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Italian  and  English  and  is  a  concept  album  based  on  the  poets  who  committed  suicide.

Albireon/Zeresh/No Longer Mourn For Me/Toten Schwan Records/2021 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  Albireon  and  Israel's  Zeresh  called  "No  Longer  Mourn  For  Me"  which  was  released  by  Toten  Schwan  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Albireon  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental,  ambient  and  neo-folk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  acoustic  guitars  which  also  add  in  elements  of  neo-folk  while  electric  guitars  are  also  utilized  at  times.  Male  and  female  vocals  are  done  in  mostly  clean  style  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from each  other  and  one  of  the  songs  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  the  spoken  word  parts  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  a  poetic  atmosphere  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  the  keyboards also  adding  in  touches  of  ambient,  loops  and  samples  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  melancholic  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Albireon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  ambient  and  neo-folk,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heartbroken  Remembrance"  and  "The  Day  You  Poured  Your  Wasted  Dreams  in  my  heart".

  Next  up  is  Zeresh  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  neo-folk.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  soundscapes  and  electric  guitars  before  adding  in  some  acoustic  guitars  which  also  add  in  elements  of  neo-folk.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clean  style  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  can  also  being  added  in  the  background  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  also  being  utilized  at  times,  demonic  voices  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  song.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Zeresh  is  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  neo-folk  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "My  Lazy  Triumph"  and  "No  Longer  Mourn  For  Me  When  I'm  Dead".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  experimental,  ambient  and  neo-folk.  8  out  of  10.

Albireon/La Bellezza Di Un Naufragio 1998-2018/Toten Schwan Records/2019 Compilation Album Review

  Albireon  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  neo-folk,  ambient  and  experimental  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  compilation  "La  Bellezza  Di  Un  Naufragio  1998-2018"  which  was  released  by  Toten  Schwan  Records.

  Avant  garde  style  soundscapes  start  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  compilation  while  the  clean  vocals  bring  in  elements  of  neo  folk  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  while  the  electric  guitars  bring  in  heavy  and  melodic  riffs  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  showing  an  influence  of  metal.  Horn  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  All  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  melodic  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording.  The  acoustic  guitars  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  finger  picking  and  full  chords  and  as  the  compilation  progresses  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music.

  One  song  also  introduces  female  vocals  onto  the  compilation  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  medieval  feeling  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  a  later  track  is  an  instrumental,  whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Sonne  Hagal's  "Spighe".  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Italian  and  English  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  form  Albireon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  neo-folk,  experimental  and  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Canto  Del  Vento  Lontano"  "Snowflake"  "Nineta"  "Mr. Nightbird  hates  Blueberries"  and  "Spighe".  8  out  of  10.

  Albireon  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays a  mixture  of   neo-folk,  ambient  and  experimental  with  a  touch of  black metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "A  Mirror  For Ashen  Ghosts  Part  One"  which  was  released  by  Toten  Schwan  Records.

  Atmospheric  soundscpapes  along  with  some  avant  garde  elements  start  of  the  album  while clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  some  ambient  style  keyboards  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are utilized  they  bring  in  elements  of  folk  and  one  of t he  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  A  small  amount  of  electric  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  grim  whispers  and  screams  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  along  with  some  tracks  also  bringing  in  drones  and  samples  and  one  track  also  brings  in  fretless  bass  guitars  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  distorted  yet  melodic guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard.

  Albireon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  neo-folk,  ambient  and  experimental  and  mixes  it  in  with  a  touch  of  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness, death,  nature  and  supernatural  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Albireon  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  neo-folk,  ambient,  experimental  and  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Path  Of  Loneliness'  "Like  Stars  In  Winter  Rapture"  "In  a  Mossy  Lake  Of  Ghosts"  and  "Above  Black  Shores".  8  out  of  10.
