Nordvargr/Resignation I-II-III/Cyclic Law Triple CD Review

 

  Sweden's  solo  project  Nordvargr  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  minimalism,  noise,  industrial  and  techno  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  triple  album  "Resignation  I-II-III"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  programmed  beats  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  also  bring  in  elements  of  techno  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  its  roots  in  industrial  while  all  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other.  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  a  lot  of  the  songs  also  being  instrumentals  and  at  times  the  recording  also  goes  into  more  of  a  minimalist  direction.

  Noises  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  songs  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  electric  guitar  sounds  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  the  screams  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal when  they  are  utilized,  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  also  adds  in  more  ritualistic  touches  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  chants.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  songs  themes,  focus  on  occultism,  nature  and  darkness.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  of  songs  from  Nordvargr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  minimalism,  noise,  industrial  and  techno  and  if you  are  a f an  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  triple  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "311"  "Among  The  Mountains  And  Rivers  Flowing"  "Where  Serpents  Appear"  and  "Evil  Eyes  impaled".  8  out  of  10.

Nordvargr/Daath/Cyclic Law/2019 CD Review

  Sweden's  Nordvargr  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  industrial  from  his  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Daath"  which  will  be  released  on  December  21st  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drones  also  being  used  briefly.  When  demonic  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  elements  of  black  and  death  metal  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  programmed  beats  as  well  as  some  industrial  touches.

  Dark  ambient  style  synths  are  also  a very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in a  good  amount  of  militant  beats.  Bass  guitars  are  also  introduced  on   one  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  percussion  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  a  tribal  and  ritualistic  feeling  as  well  as  some  songs  also  adding  in  some  stringed  and  bowed  instruments  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Nordvargr  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  industrial  from  his  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  false  sephira  and  the  qabalah.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Nordvargr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient  and  industrial,  you  should  check  out t his  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Redeemer  And  The  Secret"  "When  Kingdom  Collide"  and  "Where  There  Is  No  Word  There  is  No  Enlightenment".  8  out  of  10.

Nordvargr/Tantum Melior/Cyclic Law/2019 CD Review

  Sweden's  Nordvargr  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  mixture  of  industrial  and  dark  ambient  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019 album  "Tantum  Melior"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law  and  also  consists  of  re-works  from  his  previous  recording  by  Mz 412, Ordo Rosarius Equilbro, Vassafar, Visions,  Kristoffer  Oustad,  Spetsnaz,  Michael  Idehall,  Thorfon,  and  The  Benjolin  Codex.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  industrial  elements  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  primitive  and  minimal  sounding  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  programmed  beats  and  one  track  also  introduces  neo-folk  style  folk  vocals  into  the  music.

  Elements  of  dark  ambient  can  also  be  heard  throughout  the  recording  while  demonic  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  add  in  touches  of  black  and  death  metal.  Electric  guitars  are  also  brought  into  a  later  song  and  the  enhance  the  metal  influence  that  is  a  part  of  some  of  the  songs  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.

  All  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  ritualistic  sounding  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  distorted  noises,  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  aggressive  vocals  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  melodic guitars  leads  being  introduced  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  when  lyrics  are  utilized  they  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nordvargr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial,  dark  ambient  and  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  the  Cycle  of  All  Or  Nothing"  "Invocation  For  A  Malignant  Spirit"  "Manifestation"  and  "Consolamentum".  8  out  of  10.

Trepaneringsritualen/Nordvargr/Konung Kront i Blod/Salve Teragmom/Cyclic Law/2019 SPlit EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Sweden's  Trepaneringsritualen  and  Nordvargr  called  "Konung  Kront  i  Blood/Salve  Teragmom"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Nordvargr  a  solo  project  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  industrial  and  dark  ambient  and  his  take  on a  Trepaneringsritualen  song.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  field  recordings,  harsh  noises  and  percussion  instruments  which  makes  the  music  sound  more  ritualistic  while  also  adding  in  some  power  electronics  and  an  aggressive  style  of  industrial  vocals  and  towards  the  end  a  small  amount  of  bass  can  also  be  heard. The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Nordvargr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  and  death  industrial,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Trepaneringsritulen  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  ritualistic  form  of  death  industrial  and  his  take  on  a  Nordvargr  song.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  programmed  beats  and  demonic  vocals  while  a  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  some  growls  that  add  in  a  touch  of  death  metal  and  industrial as  well  as  some  harsh  noises  and  power  electronic  being  utilized  as  the  track  progresses.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Trepaneringsritualen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  death  industrial,  you  should  check  out  this  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  ambient,  noise  and  death  industrial,  8  out  of  10.

Nordvargr/Metempsychosis/Cyclic Law/2018 CD Review

 Nordvargr  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  industrial  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  album  "Metempsychosis"  which  will  be  released  on  March  30th  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  tracks  also  mixing  in  the  more  dark  and  underground  style  of  industrial  and  when  growls  are  utilized  they  add  in  touches  of  black  and  death  metal  and bass  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly.

  Elements  of  ambient  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  melodic  chants  giving  the  music  a  ritualistic  feeling  when  they  are  utilized  while  whispers  when  they  are  utilized  briefly  gives  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  as  the  album  progresses  ritualistic  drums  and  percussion  are  added  onto  the  recording.

  Nordvargr plays  a  musical style  that  takes  dark  ambient,  industrial  and  ritual  music  and  mixes  them  together  with    a  touch  of  black  and  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own,   the  production  sounds  very  dark while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nordvargr  are  a  very  great  sounding mixture  of  dark  ambient,  death  industrial  and  ritual  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Metempsychosis'  "Invocation  For  A  Malicious  Spirit"  "Sweet  Death  Triumphant"  and  "Livet  Tar  Slut".  8  out of  10.
