Sataray/Blood Trine Moon/Scry Recordings/2022 EP Review

 

  Olympia,  Washington's  Sataray  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  ritualistic  form  of  dark  ambient  with  elements  of  harsh  industrial  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2022  ep  "Blood  Trine  Moon"  which  was  released  by  Scry  Recordings.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  while  the  synths  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  as  well  as  using  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  along  with  a  couple  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  whispered  vocals can  also b e  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks. 

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  one  song  also  introduces  melodic  vocals  onto  the  recording.  Touches  of  industrial  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  very  slow  yet  ritualistic  direction.

  On  this  recording  Sataray  takes  dark  ambient,  dungeon  synth,  industrial  and  ritual  to  create  something  very  different  from  her  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  occult  explorations  of  the  natural  world.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sataray  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  dungeon  synth,  harsh  industrial  and  ritual,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Astara"  and  "Hexennacht".  8  out  of  10.

Sataray/Zania Morgan/Argyropeia/Scry Recordings/2020 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Washington's  Sataray  and  California's  Zanai  Morgan  called  "Argyropeia"  which  will  be  released  in  2021  by  Scry  Recordings  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Sataray  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  ritualistic  from  of  dark  ambient.

  Her  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  dark  ambient  style  synths  which  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.  When  vocals  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  and  ritualistic  style  along  with  some  melodic  chants  as  well  as  all  of  her  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,

Programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  briefly  but  keeping  the  focus  mainly  on  synths  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  introducing  whispered  vocals  onto  her  side  of  the  split  as  well  as  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  ritualistic  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sataray  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  her  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Rain".

  Next  up  is  Zania  Morgan  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  dark  form  of  ritualwave.

  Her  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  ambient  style  soundscapes  and  synths  which  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  while  both  of  her  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  in  a  clean  darkwave  style  and  programmed  beats  can  also b e  heard  at  times.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  ritualistic  and  ethereal  atmosphere along  with  some  nature  sounds  also  being  utilized  briefly  as  well  as  the  second  track  also  adding  in  some  spoken  word  parts  and  more  of  an  occult  atmosphere.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  ritualistic  themes.

  In  my  opinion   Zania  Morgan  is  a  very  great  sounding  dark  ritualwave  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  her  side  of  the  split.  RECDOMMENDED  TRACK  "Nyx  Ambrosia".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  ritualistic  dark  ambient.  8  out  of  10.

Sataray/Nocturnum/Scry Recordings/2019 CD Review

  Sataray  are  a  solo  project  from  Olympia,  Washington  that  plays  a  very  ritualistic  form  of  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2019  album  "Nocturnum"  which  was  released  by  Scry  Recordings.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Female  vocals  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  which  also  adds  in  a  shamanistic  style  chant  and  incantation  at  times  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  occult  style  whispers.

  Elements  of  goth  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  while  the  drum  beats  when  they  are  utilized  enhance  the  ritualistic  style  of  the  songs. When  screams  are  brought  into  the  music  briefly  they  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Sataray  plays  a  style  of  dark  ambient  that  is  very  ritualistic  sounding  with  some  touches  of  metal  and  goth.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Witchcraft  and  Ritual  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sataray  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  dark  ambient  solo  project and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dark  Moon" "The  Font"  and  "Maleficum  Pt.  2".  8  out  of  10.
