Postvorta/Porrima/Sludgelord Records/22 Dicembre Records/2020 CD Review

  Italy's  Postvorta  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of  sludge,  doom  and  post  metal  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Porrima"  which  will  be  released  in  February  as  a  joint  effort  between  Sludgelord  and  22  Dicembre  Records.

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  synths  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  cinematic  atmosphere  when  they  are  utilized  and  also  mixes  win  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.

  Elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  growls  which  are  in  between   death  metal  and  hardcore.  The  riffs  also  add   in  some  melodies  at  times  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  post  metal.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  All  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  black  metal  influences  at  times,  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly,  as  the  album  progresses  female vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  existential,  dead,  melancholy  and  loss  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Postvorta  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  sludge,  doom and  post  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Epithelium  Copia"  and  "Aldehyde  Framework".  8  out  of  10.

Postvorta/Carmentis/Third I Rex/2017 CD Review

  Postvorta  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  post  and  sludge  metal  with  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Carmentis"  which  was  released  by  Third  I  Rex.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  touches  of  ambient  and  drone  and  melodic  female  chants  are  also  used  briefly  and  they give  the  music  more  of  a  shamanistic  atmosphere  and  after  the  intro  clean  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  they  add  in  elements  of  post  rock.

 
  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  drum  beats  start  to  make  their  presence  known  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  once  the  music  gets  heavy  it  brings  in  the  heaviness  of  sludge  and doom  metal.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sludge  style  screams  along  with  a few  growls  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  melodic  vocals  can  be  heard  while  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  at  times  along  with  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  musical  direction  and  slide  guitars  along  with  stringed  instruments  are  also  used  briefly.

  Postvorta  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  sludge  and  post  metal  from  previous  releases, the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Postvorta  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  sludge  and  post  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Colostro"  and "Patutu".  8  out  of  10.

Postvorta/Aegeria/Drown Within Records/2015 CD Review

 Postvorta  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy that  plays  post/sludge  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  album  "Aegeria"  which  will  be  released  on  September  16th  by  Drown  Within  Records.

 A  very  dark  and  heavy  sludge  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  growling  vocals  and  you  can  also  hear  a  lot  of  post  metal  style  melodies  in  the  songs  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  there  is  also  some  hardcore  elements  being  utilized  at  times.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  and  progressive  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and on one  of  the  tracks  the  music  speeds  up  adds  in  high  pitched  screams  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  touch  of  black  metal.  

  Postvorta  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  post  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  along  with  a  small  amount  of  black  metal  to  create  a  style  of  his  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  the  cycle  of  birth  along  with  some  Greek  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Postvorta  are  a  very  great  sounding  post/sludge  metal  project  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Amnios"  and  "Uterus".  8  out  of  10.
