Vornoff/Retrospekt/Floodgate Moods Productions/2021 EP Review

 

  Denmark's  solo  project  Vornoff  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  ep  "Retrospekt"  which  was  released  by  Floodgate  Moods  Productions.

  Dark  ambient  style  synths  which  also  add  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  start  off  the  ep  while  also  bringing  in  a  very  atmospheric  sound.  Elements  of  dungeon  synth  can  also be   heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  drum  beats  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other.

  On  this  recording  Vornoff  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  that  he  had  established  on  previous  releases  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vornoff  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Taagens  Klokkeklang".  8  out  of  10.

Vornoff/The Blindsided/Floodgate Moods Productions/2017 EP Review

  Vornoff  are  a  solo  project  from  Denmark  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  ep "The Blindsided"  which  was  released  by  Floodgate  Moods  Productions.

  Bell  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  after  awhile  ambient  style  synths  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  programmed  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  lo-fi  feeling  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  incorporated  more  elements  of  dungeon  synth.

  Most  of  the  songs  are  instrumental  and  clean  yet  distorted  guitars  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  grim  whispers  which  also gives  the  songs  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  most  of  the  tracks sound  different  from  each  other  and  one  track  also  samples  a  small  amount  of  tortured  screams.

  Vornoff  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  mixture  of  previous  releases  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vornoff  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Orlok"  and  "The  Dark  Lantern".  8  out  of  10.

Vornoff/Lesions/Floodgate Moods Productions/2016 EP Review

  Vornoff  are  a  solo  project  from  Denmark  that  plays  a  mixture  of  dark ambient  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2016  ep  "Lessions"  which  consists  of  unreleased  tracks  from  2004-6  but  edited  and  re-mixed  this  year.

  A  very  dark  ambient  style  synth  starts  off  the  ep  and  it  also  sounds  very  atmospheric  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  dungeon  synth  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times and  as  the  ep  progresses  a  variety  of  more  keys  are  utilized  which  also  mixes  the  music  sound  diverse  and  you  can  also  hear  a  slight  black  metal  influence  at  times  and  clean  guitars  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  there is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Vornoff  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  dungeon  synth  and  dark  ambient  along  with  the  synths  also  being  the  dominant  musical  instrument  on  this  recording  and  the  production  also  has  a  very  dark  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Vornoff  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lession  II"  and  "Lession  V".  8  out  of  10.

Picture Ann/Sagntid/Vornoff/Nothing Comes Next/Floodgate Moods Productions/2015 EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Picture  Ann,  Sagntid  and  Vornoff  3  musical projects  that  play  black  metal  influenced  dark  ambient  which  was  released  by  Floodgate  Moods  productions  in  the  year  off  2015  and  called  "Nothing  Comes  next"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Picture  Ann  and  their  song  "The  Clouded  Windows  of  Hell".

  Their  song  starts  out  with  melodic  guitar  leads  that  are  heavily  influenced  by  black  metal  along  with  some  ambient  synths  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  song  also  brings  in  a  touch  of  psychedelia  and  field  recordings  as  well  as  being  all  instrumental  and  they  continue  to  expand  on  the  sound  they  have  established  with  previous  releases?

  Next  up  is  Sagntid  with  their  song  "Atrocity  Tourist".

  Clean  guitars  start  out  their  song  and  they  seem  to  be  equally  influenced  by  both  progressive  and  ambient  music  as  well  as  being  all  instrumental  and  the  guitars  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  finger  picking  while  the  synths  gives  the  track  more  of  an  experimental  feeling.

  Closing  the  compilation  is  Vornoff  with  their  song  "Disown".

  Their  song  starts  out  with  atmospheric  synths  and  nature  sounds  along  with  some  a  distorted  style  of  ambient  and  just  like  the  other  2  tracks  the  music  is  all  instrumental  and  puts  you  in  more  of  a  relaxed  mood.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  influenced  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.
