  Hold  Me  Down  are  a  band  from  Virginia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  power  electronics  and  industrial  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Devour"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  Industrial  style  beats  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Power  electronics  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  harsh  screams  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal.

  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  while  synths  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album.  Noises  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  lo-fi  moments,  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  some  spoken  words  also  being  utilized  on  a  few  songs.  When  the  music  speeds  you  can  also  hear  some  programmed  blast  beats  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Hold  me  Down  takes  harsh  noise,  power  electronics  and  industrial  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  dystopian  themes.

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Philippines's  Coalminer  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  the  ep  was  released  in  2024 by  Deathbed  Tapes  and  called  "Perfect  Wound".

  Harsh  noises  and  brutal  power  electronics  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  tortured  sounding  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  brings  in  elements  of  industrial.  Each  track  also  sounds  different  from  each  other  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  growls  onto  the  recording.

  On  this  recording  Coalminer  takes  harsh  noise,  industrial  and  power  electronics  to  create  something  very  primitive  and  brutal  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Philippines's  Coalminer  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  the  album  was  released  in  2023  and  called  "Evocation  For  The  Damned"  which  was  released  by  Inferior  Press  Productions.

  Harsh  noises  and  brutal  power  electronics  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  tormented  sounding  shouts  and  screams  along  with  some  programmed  beats  also  being  utilized  at  times  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  a  lot  of  the  music  sounds  very  improvised,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  most  of  the  songs  as  well  as  some  field  recordings  also  being  added  on  the  closing  song.

  On  this  recording  Coalminer  goes  for  a  very  diverse  mixture  of  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  damnation  themes.

  Coalminer  are  a  duo  rom  the  Philippines  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  power  electronics  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Beautiful  Deterioration"  which  was  released  by  Steinklang  Industries.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  music  samples  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  harsh  noises  and  brutal  power  electronics.  Tormented  screams  and  disturbed  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  chants  are  also  added  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

 A  lot  of  the  music  also  brings  in  more  of  an  underground  style  of  industrial  while  the  tracks  also  get  more  diverse  as  the  album  progresses.  Programmed  beats  are  also  added  on  a  few  tracks.

  On  this  recording  Coalminer  takes  harsh  noise,  power  electronics  and  industrial  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  brutal  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  horror,  sorrow  and  suicide  themes.

Dodssang Tempel/Mors Vincit Omnia/Crucial Blast.2025 Full Length Review

 

  U.S.A's  solo  project  Dodssang  Tempel  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  blackened  noise,  death  industrial  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Mors  Vincit  Omnia"  which  was  released  by  Crucial  Blast.

  Power  electronics  and  dark  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  harsh  noises  and  death  industrial  style  brutality.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  sounds  improvised  while  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  harsh  noise  walls  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  tortured  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  apocalyptic  sounding  while  the  calmer  sections  of  the  album  also  add  in  a  touch  of  krautrock.  Each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  sticking  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction.

  On  this  recording  Dodssang  Tempel  takes  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  wall,  dark  ambient  and  black  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  an  album  that  is very  different  from  previous  releases  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dodssant  Tempel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  noise,  death  industrial  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II"  and  "V".  8  out  of  10.

  NOx  are  a  duo  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Altar"  which  was  released  by  Collectivo  Casa  Amarela.

  

    Power  electronics  start  off  the  album  which  also  mix  in  a  variety  of  beats  after  awhile  before  adding  in  some  harsh  noises.  Some  of  the  music  also  has  its  repetitive  moments  along  with  the  recording  also  going  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  at  times  and  all  of  the  songs  are  also  all  instrumentals.

  

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  a  couple  of  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  album  also  captures  a  very  apocalyptic  sounding  atmosphere  and  all  of  the  music  is  also  improvised.  

  

  

  NOx  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  experimental,  power  electronics  and  noise  and mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

   U.S.A's  solo  project  Dodssang  Tempel  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Old  Witchcraft"  which  was  released  by  Black  Goat  Records.

  Power  electronics  and  death  industrial  beats  start  off  the  album  while  the  screams  also  add  in  more  of  a  black  metal  approach.  When  blast  beats  are  utilized  they  also  bring  elements  of  death  metal  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  going  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction  at  times.

  Harsh  noises  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  programmed  beats  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album.  One  song  also  introduces  heavy  guitars  into  the  music  as  well  as  the  slower  riffing  being  heavily  rooted  in  doom  metal,  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Some  of  the  songs  also  mix  in  the  more  harsh  side  of  ambient  and  each  track  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other.

  Bastard  Noise  are  a  solo  project  from  Claremont,  California  that  plays  a  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  power  electronics,  death  industrial  and  power  violence  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Incineration  Prayer/Self  Righteous  Suicide"  which  was  released  by  Armageddon  Label.

  Harsh  noises  and  brutal  power  electronics  start  off  the  album  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  At  times  the  music  also  mixes  in  the  brutality  of  death  industrial  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  good  amount  of  diversity  and  touches  of  dark  ambient  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  High  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  also  takes  the  music  into  a  more  brutal  direction  with  its  noisecore  and  power  violence  orientated  style  mixed  in  with  some  growls  and  angry  shouts.  Both  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  the  second  song  is  divided  into  4  chapters.

  Synths  and  electronic  music  sounds  start  off  the  album  while  the  only  track  that  is  presented  on  this  recording  is  over  22  minutes  in  length.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly  along  with  some  power  electronics  which  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  death  industrial  direction.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  while  the  noises  and  drones  also  get  more  harsh  as  the  song  progresses.  A  lot  of  the  album  also  sounds  improvised  along  with  some  field  recordings  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  some  whispered  chants  also  being  introduced  in  the  later  part  of  the  album  which  also  evolve  into  harsh  vocals.

The Grow Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

Hi,  The Grow project was born two years ago with the idea of creating new sound resonances. I only play an EGC guitar with just few effect pedals. Trying to create a massive tonal range. Alone with myself and few devices.

2.A few months back you had released an album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

The sound of Death Home Tape wasn't a real choice. The adoption of a so rough technique was motivated by necessity rather than by a real choice. A need to expressing a feeling and describing a life situation in the right way. A mental short-circuit noise. About musical style, I don’t like bounds around me.

3.What are some of the song themes you also bring into your music?

Themes of birth, rise, decline and death.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'The Grow'?

If I should explain in one sentence, a need to feel alive. ‘The Grow’ as awareness of life and death. The pandemic isolation pushed me to that.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Well, everything started from a painting by Masaccio. It is reproduced on the back cover of Death Home Tape. Today ‘The Crucifixion Of Saint Peter’ from the 15th century is on display at the State Museums in Berlin. That inverted cross in a ‘positive’ context captured my attention. The subjective meaning of symbols. The supreme deception.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

With that first release I actually wanted a full control. I owed it to myself. Yes, it is absolutely possible to open the project to other musicians in the future.

7.Are you also open to doing any live shows?

Currently that’s not a priority but live shows could be a chance to play my music in a different situation. So, enjoyed to play at a festival in Carpi last time.

8.The album was also released on cassette  by 'Industrial Coast UK', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

The search for a label was affected by short time available. I wanted to capture a mood linked to this specific time of my life. As soon as possible. Death Home Tape would get ‘corrupted’ in a short time. Steve (Industrial Coast UK) was interested in releasing it within a reasonable time. He was prompt, friendly, thrilled and very welcoming. The label choice could not be better. It was great to releasing it on cassette. I love tapes and their sense of precariousness.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of noise and experimental?

Unexpected situation is seeing the positive reaction to what you are doing, nothing is more rewarding and reinforces your motivation. Expecially when you release music driven by a personal need. The reaction has been absolutely positive. I honestly did not expect such support. I received nice feedbacks from friends, musicians and my partner, of course. The noiser legend Lasse Marhaug mixed / mastered my work and said: "I checked some tracks. Sounds good!" What more could I desire?

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as musician during the future?

It's hard to tell what may happen in the future. Thinking too much about the future is how to run without looking done we put our feet. Anyway, in the next future, I see myself experiencing music with my whole being with not following trends.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

As a teenager, my roots were in the post-punk era but I soon graduated to expanding my horizons limitless. From jazz to electronic, from metal to avant-guarde, from hardcore to industrial and so on. So I assume different musical styles can unconsciously influence my working process. My listenings today? Neil Young and Incapacitants. But tomorrow will be another story.

  Distorted  noises  and  power  electronics  start  off  the  album  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a great  amount  of  death industrial  elements.  At  times  the  recording  also  goes  into  more  of  a  repetitive  direction  along  with  some  drones  and  harsh  sounds  also  being utilized  at  times  and  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction  and  each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other.

  On  this  recording  Metadevice  focused  more  on  the  death  industrial,  harsh  noise,  power  electronics  and  drone  side  of  his  musical  style  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark

  Kult  are  a  solo  project  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  mixture  of  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2006  album "-"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Khthon.

  Field  recording  start  off  the  album   along  with  some  experimental  sounds  a  few  seconds  later  while  electric  guitar  sounds  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  On  the  second  track  power  electronics,  harsh  noises  and  high  pitched  screams  which  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  are  introduced  into  the  music.

  Profan  are  a  musical  project  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  mixture  of  noise,  drone  and  ritual  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2008  album  "Shamanic  Invokations"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Khthon.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  the  only  track  that  is  presented  on  the  recording  is  also  over  27  minutes  in  length.  Ambient  style  synths  and  ritualistic  drum  beats  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  song  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  samples  and  as  the  recording  progresses  noises  start  making  their  presence  known.

  When  electric  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  also  introduce  elements  of  metal  into  the  song  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  also  gets  more  diverse  sounding  and  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction  as  well  as  some  harsh  power  electronics  also  being  utilized  briefly  towards  the  end.

  The  Grow  are  a  solo  project  from Italy  that  plays  a  heavy  mixture  of  noise,  drone  and  experimental  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Death  Home  Tape"  which  was  released  by  Industrial  Coast  UK.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  guitar  riffing  a  few  second  later.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times while   all  of  the  music  is  also  improvised  as  well  as  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  power  electronics  on  noises  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  diversity.

  All  of t he  music  is  also  instrumental  while  all  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other.  Influences  of  extreme  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

Demonologists/Dodssang Tempel/Phage Tapes/Liquid Death Records/2022 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Demonologists  and  Dodssang  Tempel  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Pahage  Tapes  and  Liquid  Death  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Demonologists  a   solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  percussion  and  ambient  style  soundscapes  and  synths  before  adding  in  some  spoken  word  parts.  Power  electronics  can  be  heard  in  the  background  at times  which  also  evolve  into  harsh  sounding  noises  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  industrial  style  programmed  beats.

 All  of  the  tracks  also  sound   very  different  from  each  other   along  with  the  high  pitched  screams  and  whispers  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  the robotic  also  bring  in  a  very  sci-fi  orientated  atmosphere  as  well  as  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.,  female  vocals can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  occultism  and  darkness. 

  In  my  opinion  Demonologist  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "Skull  Crawler"  and  "Ascendancy  Of  hell".

  Next  up  is  Dodssang  Tempel  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  choirs  and  Gregorian  chants  before  going  into  more  of  a  harsh  noise  direction.  At  times  the  music  also  brings  in  the  more  brutal  side  of  death  industrial  along  with  the  power  electronics  also  adding  in  some  atmospheric  touches  on  later  tracks  while  each  song  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  Dodssang  Tempel  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "SLAKLE  I"  and  "SKJENDE  II".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  death  industrial, harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

Colossloth/Promethean Meat/Cold Spring Records/2022 CD Review

 

  Colossloth  are  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  esoteric,  rhythmic  form  of  industrial  noise  with  elements  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Prometthean  Meat"  which  will  be  released  on  August  19th  by  Cold  Spring  Records.

  Distorted  power  electronics  and  harsh  noises  start  off  the  album  while  the  guitar  sounds  also  mix  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal.  Industrial  style  beats  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  songs  also  mixing  in  some  voices  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  rhythmic  structures.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  while  each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  bass  guitars  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  heaviness  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  some  high  pitched  screams  also  being  added  into  the  background  at  times,  guitar  solos  and  leads  can  also be  heard  briefly  and  when  blast  beats  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal.  

  Colossloth  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  rhythmic  form  of  noise  and  mixes  it  with  industrial  and  touches  of  black  and  doom  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  while  power  electronics  can  also be  heard  in  the  background  before  going  into  a  more  powerful  direction.  When  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  also  bring  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals.
