Spaghetti Blacc/Techniques N' Tactics/Black Ski Industries/2024 Full length Review

 

  This  is  the  final  Review  of  a  recording  from  new  York's  Spaghetti  Blacc  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  experimental,  noise,  metal  and hip  hop  and  the  album  was  released  in  2024  and  called  "Techniques  N'  Tactics"  which  was  released  by  Black  Ski  Industries.

  Harsh  noises,  electric  guitars  and  drum  beats  start  off  the  album  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Some  of  the  drums  also  add  in  touches  of  free  jazz  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  at  times  and  some  of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals.

  Guitar  solos  and  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  a  lot  of  the  first  half  of  the  recording  is  also  improvised.  Harsh  screams  are  also  introduced  on  one  of  the  tracks  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  some  ritualistic  style  chants  and  operatic  vocals  and  some  of  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  world  music.

  Percussion  style  instruments  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  a  lot  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  The  second  half  of  the  album  also  adds  in  touches  of  funk  music  and  goes  for  more  of  a  hip  hop  direction  which  also  mixes  in  a  lot  of  raps  and  they  also  change  the  pace  by  mixing  in  a  small  amount  of  Gregorian  chants  on  one  song  and  another  experimental  track  before  going  back  into  rap  mode.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  dark,  political  and  philosophical  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Spaghetti  Blacc  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  noise,  metal  and  hip  hop,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Devil  Auction"  'EMF  Essence"  "13  Years"  and  "Inter-Proxyma  Quotient".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  New  York's  Spaghetti  Blacc  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  hip  hop,  experimental  and  noise  and  the  album  was  released  in  2024  by  Blacc  Ski  Industries  and  called  "Cave  Devil  Cabalgata  Powder".

  Industrial  style  beats  and  choirs  start  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  an  experimental  approach  before  adding  in  hip  hip  style  beats,  synths  and  raps.  Samples  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  A  later  track  shoes  the  music  going  into  more  of  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  direction  while  also  adding  in  some  noises  before  going  back  to  a  hip  hop  direction  which  they  keep  for  the  rest  of  the album.  

  On  this  recording  Spaghetti  Blacc  focuses  more  on  an  east  coast  rap  and  hip  hop  style  with  only  a  small  amount  of  noise  and  experimental  touches.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  politics,  gang  life  and  eastern  religions  and  philosophies.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Spaghetti  Blacc  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  hip  hop,  experimental  and  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Grand  Scheme"  and  "(Identified  By)  Sublime  Transgressions  &  Subliminal  Essence".  8 out  of  10.

Spaghetti Blacc/Gemological Profile/Black Ski Weekend Industries/2023 Full Length Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  an  album  from  New  York's  solo  project  Spaghetti  Blacc  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  hip  hop,  experimental,  harsh  noise  and  metal  and  the  album  was  released  in  2023  and  called  "Gemological  Profile"  which  was  released  by  Blacc  Ski  Industries.

  Drum  beats  and  avant  garde  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  raps  and  hip  hop  style  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  Synths  are  also  added  on  most  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  samples  and  the  first  half  of  the  recording  sticks  to  more  of  a  rap  direction.

  As  the  recording  progresses  the  music  starts  getting  more  experimental  while  also  adding  in  more  heavier  direction  which  also  brings  in  elements  of  extreme  metal,  Distorted  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffs  and  harsh  noises  are  added  on  a  later track.

  On  this  recording  Spaghetti  Blacc  focuses  more  on  a  rap  and  hip  hop  style  on  the  beginning  tracks  and  goes  into  more  of  an  experimental,  noise  and  extreme  metal  direction  towards  the  end  to  create  a  diverse  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  politics,  religion  and  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Spaghetti  Blacc  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  rap,  hip  hop,  experimental,  harsh  noise  and  extreme  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pigeon's  Blood"  and  "Immuniversal  Atrophy".  8  out  of  10.

Kirril Interview

 1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your musical project?

It's a mix of different influences, most of it would probably be best described as industrial. I gravitate a lot towards industrial, distorted, psychedelic and weird music. It is a large part of what I do.

I don't tend to stick to one genre though, I switch from project to project: I need to keep on doing things that are new for me.

2.In the last few years you have also released a great amount of material, how would you describe your musical progress over the years?

Things are a bit less lo-fi then they used to be, and I am also constantly pushing to keep making things darker, weirder. In the beginning things were very focussed on the dance floor on mostly illegal parties, after that I started studying music for 5 years and things got a bit more complex and more and more my own thing over the years.

The influences of the parties of the early days have begun to creep in again lately, combining it with the sound / body of work I have developed so far.

3.You also have a background with illegal parties and living in squats, what impact does this have on the musical style that you play?

The atmosphere of those surroundings and the way of life that comes with it influenced the sound of my music a lot and still often does.

In the very early years, uncertainty of how long we had electricity and could stay somewhere also made me learn how to make things fast and be perfectionistic about the right things and make sure it worked because it would be hard to change later.

I made a lot of quite minimalist tracks and loops, but making sure every sound worked and was the best I could make it. Then making larger collage type things out of those tracks in livesets.

Us throwing regular parties meant I could check well if something worked in large halls and such,/ got a reaction out of a crowd very early and consistently. That time learned me a lot overall

4.A lot of your song themes are inspired by dystopian topics and turbulent nightlife, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

It's what I see around me, it connects to how we live.

5.In the last few years you also have released a great amount of material, do you spend a great amount of your time writing and creating music?

Yes, I have worked at it almost every day for the past 17 years. That could be for just an hour or entire days.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

I work a lot on my own, but also have put out different collaborations over the years. From one on one collaborations to me leading small teams of different diverse artists.

The last three years were more solo work, but I would like to collaborate more in the future again and have been taking some steps towards that lately. trying some things with different people.

7.What are some of the best shows that you have played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I have done different kinds of performances over the years. From illegal party´s in dark hallways and basements, to commercial clubs to brightly lit art gallery type environments. Sometimes with a laptop and some midi gear,everything tightly controlled and prepared. Sometimes also with just hardware, modular synths, drumcomputers and cheap guitar pedals and such, more freeform. Lately I have been moving more into combining those two different approaches.

I stil feel more comfortable in dark rooms/ larger halls where I can project large visuals, so that the focus is more on the music and the visual art than on me.

8.What are some of the record labels have you worked with on the releases so far?

In October I put out a self-titled cassette album on Tartarus Records, A Dutch metal label that has been getting more and more into releasing industrial stuff lately. On the 7th of January my Album Nocturnal was released on Revok Records, an industrial techno label based in London and Tokyo.

Most of my work before that was self released and promoted, in 2012 the American darkpsy label Anomalistic Records spread my EP Hardwired quite a bit, which was cool.

9.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of industrial, noise and other underground forms of music?

It's hard to tell sometimes this year because so much is just online, and so many events having stopped with the pandemic and all.

I´ve read some great reactions online though.

There's been some good responses in the industrial techno scene.

I was quite surprised to find my release on several release of the week lists of some notable metal blogs/ podcasts. That felt great. My music is far from metal but I do feel a connection to it/ attracted to it, especially to the really dark stuff. It´s a great scene.

It would be great to do some crossover stuff with some metal artists some day.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

Things are going to get darker. And a lot of it more danceable, I am tired of that not being possible (at events), I miss it, it's been enough.

I also have some more slow noise/ industrial projects coming up though that are going to get very dark and weird.

I have a lot of new releases coming up, experimenting in how I can expand my body of work.

I am also working on developing more of a visual world around my music, making that a part of my live performances.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I am listening an awful lot to The Weeknd to be honest, which a lot of people probably wouldn't expect. I like the world he created around his music. Also a lot of Lil Durk lately (not kiddin here)

On the other side of the spectrum I have been into more extreme noise/ experimental music like Prurient, Nurse With Wound and I´ve been listening to some stuff from the Deathbed Tapes label lately. There's some really great noise on there.

I listen to and am inspired by a quite wide spectrum of music. I like different ways of creating worlds with audio, either with or without vocalists.

I like it when underground and mainstream influences overlap and something special comes out of that. Artists that really develop their own thing.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Not really at the moment, I think I said most of what I could think of now.

Kirril/Self Titled/Tartarus Records/2021 Cassette Review

 

  Kirril  are  a  solo  project  from  the  Netherlands  that  plays  a  mixture  of  rhythmic  noise,  dark  industrial,  psychedelic,  down  tempo  and  hip  hop  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  2021  album  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  Tartarus  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  noises  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  lot  of  programmed  beats.  Elements  of  industrial  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  some  touches  of  underground  dance  music.

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times  while  all  of  the  songs  also  stick  to  an  instrumental  direction.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  bass  sound  of  hip  hop  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from each  other  and  some  songs  also  mix  in  psychedelic  and  down  tempo  influences.      

  Kirril  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  rhythmic  noise,  dark  industrial,  psychedelic,  down  tempo  and  hip  hop  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  Kirril  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  rhythmic  noise,  dark  industrial,  psychedelic,  down  tempo  and  hip  hop  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INLUDE  "I"  "V"  "VII"  and  "XI".  8  out  of  10.

  New  York's  Spaghetti  Blacc  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  brings  in  a  mixture  of   classic  metal,  rap,  world  and  electronic  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Carnival  of  Redacted  Sciences"  which  was  released  by  Blacc  Ski  Weekend  Industries.

  Hip  hop  music  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  rap  style  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Elements  of  ethnic and  world  music  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  songs  that  are  presented  on  the  recording.  One  track  also  introduces  electronic  music  sounds  and  programmed  beats  into  the  music  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  lot  more  variety  and  as  the  album  progresses  touches  of  ambient  are  also  added  into  the  music.

  Most  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  when  guitars  are  finally  added  into  the  music  they  bring  in  more  metal  influences. What  makes  this  album  different  from  previous  releases  is  that  the  harsh  noise  elements  are  absent  from  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical, political  and  occult  themes.

Tri-Function Million/Sprukket Jord/Dead Seed Productions/2017 Full length Review

  Tri-Function  Million  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  consists  of  members  from  Amok,  Gribberiket,  and  Utarm  and  play  a  mixture  of experimental,  avant  garde  and  hip  hop  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Sprukket  Jord"  which  will  be  released  on  November  19th  by  Dead  Seed  Productions.

  Experimental  and  avant  garde  sounds  start  off  the  album  while  rap  style  vocals  are  added  into  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later  along  with  some  hip  hop  beats  in  the  background  and  when  guitars  are utilized  they  ad d elements  of  metal  onto  the  recording as  well  as  some  songs  also  bringing  in  ambient  style  synths.

  One  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  spoken  word  parts  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  ethnic  music  elements  and  as  the  album  progresses  touches  of  drone  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  an  instrumental.

  Tri-Function  Million  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  hip  hop,  experimental  and  avant  garde  to  create  something  very original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  dystopian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Tri-Function  Million  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  experimental,  avant  garde  and  hip  hop  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sprukket  Jord"  "En  Grave  For  Alle"  "Avataren"  and  "Djevlenes  Hender".  8  out  of  10.

iMMANENT.dOMAIN Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
i.d.: this is our first release as a collective. a lot of these tracks were finished by Spaghetti Blacc months ago, but the collaborations took time to piece together. This was also the most expensive album to record in Blacc Ski Weekend's history. Even outside of purchased gear, any device that came within our reach got recorded and thrown onto this album, and probably even remixed.

2. How would you describe your musical sound that is presented on the album?
i.d: espionage rap, ceremonial music, noise. A lot of stuff inspired by old playstation/saturn soundtracks.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with your music?
i.d: keeping it raw, honestly, not that masturbatory intellectualism, "let me preach at you" type game. That aint what I'm trying to hear. In the rap game we, unfortunately, need to navigate through a phenomenon called "Terminal Woke Worship." There are a lot of references to dated American movies/video games/pop music because I wanted the listener to feel the hopelessness of being complicit in violent consumerist culture and the horrid side effects of this brainwashing. I think maybe album this started out as commenting on some themes in current American society, politics and pop culture, but that's a lot to unpack without knowing all the answers of how to fix all this shit, and I'm not really even used to speaking on something like this, so eventually that lens tilts and focuses inwards, for me at least. I don't place ourselves above America or its problems,  so the story just kinda fit as (un)naturally as we do as a unit. Maybe I got a little too honest, though...there are tracks I'm not trying to listen to all the way through. I mean, some of us even work for the government. I was just trying to get all these govt employees to band together, fondle machines, and change NYC through angsty sounds. But true to NYC lifestyle, most of the concepts and themes are developed up until to the point of collapse, and even then debris is stacked on top of ruins. Everything is accelerated to its self destruction point, without exception.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'iMMANENT.dOMAIN'?
i.d: i guess its a bad pun like everyone else's name, but there turned out to be a running theme in these songs with identity, or identification. So, all the band members have ID cards and need to check into the facility & log into my facebook profile in order to collaborate with Spaghetti at the actual immanent domain, where the album was recorded. That's what the album cover is depicting as well.

5. Has there been any live shows or is this strictly a studio Project?
i.d: Spaghetti Blacc & Volatile Hank will be on tour in Thailand and Indonesia in late August of this year performing some of the material from the album. SB & T will probably play shows after that covering some of the other material too. Other members could be out performing these tracks and honestly I wouldn't even know.


6. Can you tell us a little bit more about  'Blacc Ski Weekiend Industries'?
i.d: Founded by Spaghetti Blacc in 2013, Blacc Ski Weekend has produced albums of various genre styles, video games, audiobooks, animated short films, there were even some comic book projects that were discontinued.


7. How has the feedback been to your music by your fans so far?
i.d: positive! I didn't think people were used to switching gears so violently from rap to harsh noise to gamelan infused synthpop, so I'm glad we tried that. This album will be released in a 3cd set this summer.

8.What is going on with some of the other musical projects some of the band members are a part of?
i.d: Cy is working on a new rap tape, his fourth I believe. Spaghetti Blacc will have a feature on that tape. THERAVADA will be releasing a lot of projects in the remainder of this year that I'm pretty excited about, many of which produced by Rob Chambers plus a lot of other talented musicians too. They will most likely release stuff under the "Trilogy" project too. ZMD is still working on Vol 13. Wanted Dead or Alive Productions is a new label very closely related to Blacc Ski Weekend Industries, and they're putting out some new rap material too. Spaghetti will be involved in a lot of these projects, to a much smaller degree. A lot of them are simply being produced at the "domain".

9. Where do you see this project heading into musically during the future?
i.d: There's a music video coming out soon for "Increased Security". Spaghetti Blacc & T will be releasing a sequel album that primarily focuses on espionage-rap and themes of "new humanity"

10. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
i.d: Kool Keith & Susumu Hirasawa. I guess this album was also in part influenced by Les Rallizes Denudes live videos.

11. Does Occultism play any role in your music?
i.d: We have our suspicions about who among us is smuggling in the influence of occultism. At this time we cannot say.

12. What are some of your non musical interests?
i.d: exercise, water, espionage, self flagellation.

  iMMANENT.dOMAIN  are  a  musical  project  from  New  York  that  plays  a mixture  of  hip  hop,  black  metal,  dark  ambient,  harsh  noise,  drone,  electronica  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Persona  Non Grata"  which  was  released  by  Black  Sky  Weekend  Industries.

  Hip  hop  vocals  and  rapping  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drones  being  utilized  in  the  background  as w ell  as  a  small  amount  of  nature  sounds  and  after  awhile  synths,  programmed  beats  and  turntable  scratching  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  elements  of  dark  ambient  are  also  used  at  times.

  A  lot  of the  music  brings  in  a more  experimental  approach  to  hip  hop  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  harsh  noise  and  death  industrial  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  a  small  amount of  black  metal  screams  and  one  track  also  brings  in  more  of  a  tribal  and  ritualistic  style.

  Heavy  guitar  riffs  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  touches of  synth  pop  and  techno  and  a  later  track  adds  in  some  noisecore  and  power  violence  traces  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also all  instrumental and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  diversity  throughout  the  recording.

  iMMANENT.dOMAIN  plays  a  musical  style  that  mostly  closer  to  hip hop  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  black  metal,  dark  ambient,  harsh  noise,  drone,  electronica  and  industrial  to  create  something  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness,  Philosophical  and  Violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  iMMANENT.dOMAIN  are  a  very  great sounding  mixture  of  hip  hop,  black  metal,  dark  ambient,  harsh  noise,  drone,  electronica  and  industrial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Open  Sorcerer"  "They're  Marching  On  My  Last  Nerve"  "Legendary  prisoner"  and  "Genie  Buss".  8  out  of  10.
