Mark Solotroff/In Search Of Total Placelessness/2025 Full Length Review

 

  New  York's  solo  project  Mark  Solotroff  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  experimental  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2025  album  "In  Search  of  Total  Placelessness". 

  Electronic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  noise  elements  and  the  tracks  range  from  very  short  to  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction  along  with  the  recording  also  going  into  a  very  experimental  direction  at  times.

  The  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  a  lot  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  improvised.  Voices  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  lot  of  the  shorter  tracks  sounding  more  like  intros  and  interludes  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  sounding.  and  some  of  the  noises  also  get  very  harsh  and  chaotic.

  On  this  recording  Mark  Solotroff  takes  an  atmospheric  form  of  noise  and  mixes  it  with  experimental  and  electronic  music  to  create  a  very  diverse  release  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mark  Solotroff  and  if  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  atmospheric  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Immediately  After  Vanishing"  "Time  Overlaps  Unresolved"  "Frozen  Gestures  Upon  The  Milky  Surface"  and  "The  Left  Hall  Of  My  Body  Untethered".  8 out  of  10.

Mark Solotroff/Today The Infinite, Tomorrow Zero/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Mark  Solotroff  are  a  solo  project  from  New  York  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  noise,  drone,  experimental  and  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2023  album  "Today  The  Infinite,  Tomorrow  Zero".

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  each  track  is  also  over  6  minutes  in  length.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  along  with  some  noises  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction.

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  the  album  also  has  its  experimental  moments.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  repetitive  sounding  along  with  each  song  adding  in  an  improvised  atmosphere  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  distorted  frequencies  in  with  the  extra  layers  of  synths.    

  On  this  recording  Mark  Solotroff  takes  noise,  drone,  experimental  and  ambient  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  recording  while  the  production  also  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mark  Solotroff  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  noise,  drone,  experimental  and  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Weight  of  Your  Own"  "Desire  Without  Wounds"  "Almost  All  Promises"  and  "The  Hold  on  Life".  8  out  of  10.

Mark Solotroff/Not Everybody Makes It/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Mark  Solotroff  is  a  solo  artist  from  New  York  and  known  for  his  work  in  Bloodyminded  and  Anatomy  Of  habit  and  with  his  solo  material  plays  a  mixture  of  ambient,  drone  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  album  "Not  Everybody  Makes  It"  which  will  be  released  on  July  30th.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  10  minutes  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals.  Electronic  sounds  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  some  of  the  soundscapes  also  being  utilized  for  minutes  on  end.

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  noises  can  also be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  along  with  the  recording  also  capturing  a  very  primitive  atmosphere  and  all  of  the  music  is  also  done  in  an  improvised  direction.

  Mark  Solotroff  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  noise,  drone  and  ambient  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  Mark  Solotroff  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  ambient,  drone  and  noise  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Charged  Matter(The  Problem  From  The  Inside)"  and  "Return  To  Pleasure(Body  Into  Voice)'.  8  out  of  10.
