Khost are a duo from the United Kingdom that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of death industrial and doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Buried Steel" which was released by Cold Spring Records.
Power electronics start off the album along with some dark, heavy and melodic riffing a few seconds later. The slower sections of the songs also bring in the heaviness of doom metal while the vocals are done in a very aggressive style that is also mixed down low in the mix and the drums are also done in a very militant style.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while harsh noises can also be heard at times. Female vocals can also be heard briefly along with the music also bringing in a great amount of industrial elements and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Some of the harsh noises also add in the brutality of death industrial along with one track also introducing spoken word parts onto the recording. All of the songs also sound very different from each other as well as the guitar leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized and all of the music also sticks to a slower direction. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Khost and if you are a fan of death industrial and doom metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "We Will Win" "Last Furnace" "Dof Unit" and "A Non Temporal Crawlspace". 8 out of 10.
