Snares Of Sixes are another solo project from Jason Walton best known for his work in Agalloch and Sculptured who also works with some session musicians with this release , also has had a previous album reviewed in this zine and with this recording goes for a mixture of ambient, experimental, noise and field recordings and this is a review of his 2021 album "MoonBladder" which will be released in October as a joint effort between Nefarious Industries and Transcending Records.
Experimental soundscapes start off the album along with some filed recordings a few seconds alter while the only track that is presented on this recording is almost 30 minutes in length. Electric guitars can also be heard at times and also adds in a touch of metal into the song and the music also adds in a great amount of electronic sounds.
When synths are utilized they also bring elements of ambient into the music while programmed beats are also added into some parts of the album. Clean playing and melodic guitar leads can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with some distorted noises also being utilized at times, spoken word parts and vocals can also be heard briefly as well as the use of real d rums also giving the album more of an improv atmosphere.
On this recording Snares of Sixes plays a musical style that takes ambient, experimental, noise and field recordings and mixes them together to create a sound of his own as well as adding in some session work from members of Occulted Sound, Barrowlands, Kayo Dot, Dreadnought, Winds and Dolven while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Snares Of Sixes and if you are a fan of ambient, experimental, field recordings and noise you should check out this solo project. 8 out of 10.
