Beckahesten are a band from Sweden that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of ambient, folk, industrial and ritual and this is a review of their 2021 album "Tydor" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Ambient style soundscapes and percussions start off the album while the songs also give the songs more of an atmospheric feeling when they are utilized. Ritualistic chants are also a very huge part of the recording along with the female vocals also giving the songs more of a pagan and folk music atmosphere.
When tribal style beats are utilized they also give the songs more of a shamanistic feeling while whispered vocals are also added into some parts of the recording. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some tracks also adding in touches of post industrial as well as a later track also introducing spoken word pars onto the album which also enhances the more ritual orientated side of the music and the album also adds in session work from a member of Heilung.
On this recording Beckahesten goes for more of a mixture of ambient, folk, industrial and ritual as well as progressing on the style of their previous release. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics are written in Swedish and deal with nature spirits.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Beckahesten and if you are a fan of ambient, folk, industrial and ritual, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bruddansen" "Dimman" "Hednavasen" and "Siaren". 8 out of 10.
