Catacombed/Let Them Appear/2015 EP Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Catacombed  which  remains  in  the  drone/funeral  doom  metal  direction  with  the  ep  being  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "Let  Them  Appear"  which  is  also  a  40  minute  track  and  the  only  song  on  the  recording.

  Guitar  amp  sounds,  reverb's  and  noises  start  off  the  song  before  going  into  bass  guitar  riffs  that  are  in  more  of  a  funeral  doom metal  direction  and  the whole  song  is  mostly  instrumental  and  sticks  to  a  slow  musical  direction  and  only  brings  in  a  few  seconds  of  clean  bass guitars  while  mostly  being  very  heavy  throughout  its  40  minutes  and the  second  have of  the  track  goes  for  more  of  an  ambient  style  briefly  before  returning back  to  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  screams  that  are  heavily  influenced  by  black  metal.

  Catacombed  creates a  40  minute  track  that  is  heavily  rooted  in  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  while  also  bringing  in  touches  of  ambient,  noise  and  black  metal  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  epic  song,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Catacombed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  funeral  doom  metal  and  drone  with  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Catacombed/Wasteland/2015 Full Length Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Catacombed  which  continues  the  drone/funeral  doom  metal  sound  of  previous  recordings  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2015  digitally  and  called  "Wasteland".

  Drones  and  reverb  noises  start  off  the  album  giving  the  music  an  avant  garde  feeling  before  the  bass  guitars  start  to  take  over  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long and  epic  in  length  and  while  the  doom  metal  elements  are  still  there  the  influence  of  drone  has  a  more  powerful  impact  this  time  around. 

  Vocals  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental  and  the  bass  guitar  is  the  only  instrument  that is  used  on  this  recording  and  the  whole  album  sticks  to  a  slow  musical  direction  and  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  parts.

  Catacombed  continue  their  drone/funeral  doom  sound  of  previous  recordings  and  also  go  into  more  of  an  instrumental  direction  this  time  around  without  losing  any  of  the  heaviness  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Catacombed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone  and  funeral  doom,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Pestilence".  8  out  of  10.

Catacombed/Witch's Swamp/2015 Full Length Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Catacombed  which  continues  the  drone  and  funeral  doom  combination  of  previous  releases  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2015  and  called  "Witch's  Swamp".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  bass guitar  sound  starts off  the  album  which  then  goes  into  a  funeral  doom  metal  direction  while  also  bringing  in  drones  at  times  and  all  4  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  the  second  track  death  metal  growls  are  brought into  the  music  along  with  some  black  metal  elements  and  the  music starts  having  more  of  a  depressive  feeling  and  the  vocals  also  get  very  melodic and  ritualistic  at  times  and just  like  with  the  previous  recording  most  of  the  tracks  are  instrumental  and  stick  to  a  slow  and  heavy  musical  direction.

  Catacombed  creates  another  very  heavy  drone/funeral  doom  metal  album  with  mostly  bass  guitars  and  only  a  small  amount  of  vocals  but  still  comes  out  very  powerful  and  heavy,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Catacombed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Prayer  In  The  Dark"  and  "Witch".  8  out  of  10.

Catacombed/Cave Crypt/2015 Full Length Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Catacombed  which  continues  the  mixture of  drone  and  funeral  doom  of  the  ep  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2015  and  called  "Cave  Crypt".

  Dark  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  giving  the  music  a  lo-fi  sound  and  a  few  seconds  later  bass  guitars  start  to  kick  in  and  all of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  stick  to  a  very  slow,  dark  and heavy  funeral  doom/drone  sound  and  on  the  second  track  deep  guttural  death  metal  growls  start  becoming  a  part  of  the  music  briefly.

  Just  like  the  previous  recording  the  bass  guitar  is  used as  a  lead  instrument  with  no  regular  guitars ever  being  utilized  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  the  early  90's  doom/death  metal  sound  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals  and  vocals  are  only  used  briefly and  the  drums  that  where  on  the  ep  are  absent  from  this  album.

  Catacombed  continues  the  bass  guitar  style  of  drone/funeral  doom  that  was  presented  on  the  previous  recording  while  focusing  less  on  vocals,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Catacombed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cave  Crypt"  and  "Black  One".  8  out  of  10.

Catacombed/Relics Of An Abysmal Crypt/2015 EP Review

  Catacombed  are  a  duo  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "Relics  Of  An  Abysmal  Crypt".

  Powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  in  deep  and  guttural  death  metal  growls  and  the  bass  also  takes  over  as  a  lead  instrument  and  brings  a  doom  metal  sound  to  the  recording  and  the  drums  bring  a  funeral  march  feeling  to  the  recording  and there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats.

  Most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  very  slow  musical  direction  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  drones  with  a  funeral  doom  sound  and  the  whole  ep  has  a  heavy  sound  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  vocals  on  the  last  track  have  almost  a  black  metal  feeling  and  the  song  also  brings  in  depressive  melodies.

  Catacombed  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  very  dominated  by  bass  guitars  and  mixes  drone  and  funeral  doom  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Catacombed  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Putrid  Thoughts"  and  "Dead  Whisper".  8  out  of 10.
