Kaschade Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the musical project since the recording and release of the new album?

Spontaneous. From the base. Example in which you need to wrestle to get the end result. The discipline of composing. Or as jazz musicians say - we get inspiration from everywhere. Like the cycle of nature or the creation of the universe.

2.In October you released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

All albums are ambient but with psychedelic addition. Of course experimental. And this new one is mostly electronic. The album is thoroughly done. Step by step. Handwork. It’s an ambient psychedelic album. Traces of jazz music. And too much of experimental space music with dark moods. Is more based on a themes, on a solo, on improvisation, on a point, comma.

3.From 2016 there was no music being released while there was an album released every year from 13 to 16, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

Yes, there was no music at the time. But in 2017 I work more compositions for "Performance" album. 2018 I started to compose two singles for the "Nightmares" and it was issued in 2019. Besides, in 2018 I make music for a documentary "Surrealisam". It's about a Kaschade music. Also I recorded one song with Danish ambient jazz guitarist Alex Jønsson. 2019 was a year for exploring technique on synthesizer and saxophone. Track "Kim the Vampire" and "Chlorine Punk" was boring. Kim is epic and I need to much time to compose and arrange that. That's it.

4.What are some of the themes and images you bring into the newer music?

I don't want to localize compositions and create worlds near worlds in foggy fantasy. The listener has the full right to walk through the valley of light and to snatch monsters from the womb.

5.On past references you made references to Oscar Wilde, Phillip K. Dick and> Ron Hubbard in the song titles, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in there writings and are there any other authors or writers that have been influential to you?

You noticed. Phenomenal. I like Oscar Wilde and his dandy look. I have wish  I performed that in a huge coat. To have renaissance wig and two long hair Pekingese. One Pekingese in the left under the armpits and other Pekingese   in the right  Pekingese. To be fat and sweaty. In this performance I don’t play. That’s it…Philip K. Dick is good but I like more Ray Bradbury. Also I like Stanisław Lem and Stanislav Grof. Right now I reed Christoph Martin Wieland: History of the Abderites

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Kaschade'?

Kaschade is a musician who saw a Koala in the bathroom along with Grey alien. Grey alien was wearing a wig and had neon blue water over it. Also, Kaschade is a German surname but it sounds like a marzipan and wild chestnut perfume.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

It’s a green organism and it fly using outgrowth . Outgrowth like fungal disease. They are mutating little balls  from the plasticine and caught lichen. Many alien organism you can see in Surrealisam and in a upcoming documentary. First i painted according to role models as Leonadro da Vinci and  Rembrandt van Rijn. Than came cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas! from 1966. Grinch, Pink Panther, The Ant and the Aardvark, they improved my drawing. That's it.

8.Have you done any live performances with this solo project?

I have two music visual performance. This epidemic situation interrupted another two performance. I don’t know. I have plane also to promote a music documentary on festivals. But really I feel more happy when I compose a music. Everything is a discography and nothing more.

9.The last few albums have been released by 'Interphone Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Performance and this new record is under Interphone Records. Interphone is only record label who registered my albums. Another albums was under records labels in England and Belgium. Interphone Records take care about my albums. And it is possible that they will publish next year my "Nightmares" album on the vinyl.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of experimental, ambient and noise?

This are not popular genres. But this is gift for a superlative above-average listeners. One of this genres are just a little land but for other people. This is a universe.

11.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

Most musicians are not fans of the issue like I am - what are these role models. I think, I know, the plans are easier. A normal organized person should plan even if everything is unpredictable. Promotion of the album -Nightmares as well as the music documentary - Dreams.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I always say what I listen to first. I had role models before, before the first album was released. I always tried to put other people's music aside and start composing in my own way. This is how our own worlds are created.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

It's important just to be alive and creative. To be a positive person and nothing more. That important.

I, The Weapon Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit more about the band?

1.(D.R.)We are a group of experimental heavy music or at least that is what we understand about what we have been working on until now. We are originally from Argentina more precisely from the city of Moreno on the outskirts of Buenos Aires and since 2014 we have been writing music under the name of I, The Weapon. At the end of 2018 we have digitally released our debut album titled The Ivy, which is the realization of many years of hard work within the Buenos Aires underground scene.

2.So far you have released one album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

2.(S.A.) We work a lot on the concept of an album beyond a particular musical style. Each one of us likes many different things musically speaking, so intuitively we came to this sound that we captured in The Ivy. The album is basically conceived as an introspective blog. We had in mind that it was something episodic, like a story as a narrative and the idea of segmenting it as if they were chapters of a book arose, hence the existence of the prologues that are like a kind of introduction to the song that precedes it. Originally we wanted to work on the lyrics in Spanish that we had previously written, but due to tonal reasons we couldn't find what we were looking for so we experimented with using them in environmental pieces that I had been working on for a long time. We liked how they looked so we opted to interpret the songs in English and the Intermediates in Spanish to somehow not completely disengage from our native language and make it more interesting to listen and to the character of the album as a whole. And when it comes to the style we practice, we focus on sludge and post metal because we feel that it is a sound that perfectly suits those of us who seek to transmit with our music and our vision of reality.

3.The band has been around since 2014 but so far there has only been one release, can you tell us a little bit more about it?

3.(D.R.) Our main obstacle since we started this project was completing our lineup. We had drums, guitar and vocals, but there was no one to take care of the bass, so while we wrote and worked on the first songs we began the titanic task of finding the musician in charge of the low frequencies. During all that time there have been several bassists who for one reason or another did not quite convince themselves or understand the idea we had been working on. The different bass players auditions were added, such as the injury I suffered in February 2017 that left me in bed for almost a year and without realizing it we were almost at the end of the year without having been able to play a single time live or recorded anything, like this It was like after I was able to recover we started the pre-production of the album so that in March 2018 we could enter the studio.

4.A lot of your lyrics are inspired by the writings of Macedonio Fernandez, Alejandra Pizarnik and Charles Baudelaire, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in their works?

4.(S.A.)Since I was a little girl I have been a very inveterate reader and I suppose it is natural that a lot of that will end in one way or another influencing the music I play. Both Pizarnik and Baudelaire have been my favorites forever with those cursed poems that were so heartbreaking and so beautiful at the same time. Since it occurred to us to form the band, we talk about the idea of doing something lyrically oriented within the style of these authors, as well as the life and work of Macedonio Fernández, who, upon losing his wife, plunged into the more absolute and profound sadness thus creating the pillar works of Argentine literature. All that melancholy, that dark uneasiness, that desperate existential and metaphysical search simply fascinated us. Unconsciously they have always been within us as part of our DNA, as a beacon to show us the way forward. That total dedication is what motivated us and inspired to a large extent to do what we do. Art from our perspective is that, total surrender and continuous search for oneself.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'I, The Weapon'?

5.(D.R.) As many of you will know, the name is taken from a song by the Swedish band Cult of Luna, more precisely from the Vertical album. We had liked the song very much of course, but the name touched us very strongly, to the point that it resonated in our heads for some time. So much so that it seemed to us that it perfectly described our conception of what our music should be: a channel, a means where we can fight what happened to each one of us to everything that seemed unfair, to everything negative that affected us and to be able to turn it into music, into art and resignify it. It is our vision about the goal that music and art in general should have. It also perfectly posed the duality of the human condition, which is clearly the source of most of the evils in the world. That nature of creating or destroying that is inherent in the human race. We clearly do not think about it from a strict warlike sense, but rather from a purely artistic position.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

6.(S.A) The idea of the cover is based on the whole concept included in the album, the beginning of the descent into hell, of an irremediable descent. It was inspired by a book by H. G. Wells called The Door in the Wall. We raffle many ideas of how the cover should be, we work with many things since we both have some knowledge in photography and illustration, but we were not convinced how much we had available at that time. So doing a little research we found an extremely interesting an old place on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, in a rural area excactly that we thought might be what we were looking for. This place was previously a very busy train station in its heyday at the beginning of the last century and then abandoned to its destination some time later. This little by little was deteriorating to the point that it was totally absorbed by the vegetation and many stories and legends were born from it. So we set out to take a trip there, which is a few hours by car from where we live, since there is no other way to get there. It is undoubtedly a very special place and is charged with an indescribable energy since during the entire course of the trip the day was in the worst weather conditions until we came to think that it would not be possible to take the photographs. Once we arrive at the place, the sky clears up completely and lets us work at ease as if someone were waiting for us. It was an amazing and strange experience.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

7.(D.R.)Yes, our idea is to be a three-piece band and not just a duo, which by force majeure we always have been. Although from the beginning we have only been two people working on guitar and drums, we always composed with the idea of adding the bass later. The sound that we conceive is intended for a complete band, that is: guitar, bass and drums, so logically we hope to complete our line-up soon. We are convinced that shortly and after all this Covid 19 problem is resolved and we return to normal, we will find someone. Meanwhile we continue working as is our custom.

8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

8.(S.A.) I must say that our best show was our debut, it was very strange but emotional at the same time. It was at a concert that was originally thought of as a festival and ended up becoming a tribute. One of the members of one of the bands that would play at that festival dies suddenly days before the concert. The organizer asked the rest of the bands if we agreed to go ahead, as the affected band wanted to do it anyway as a tribute to their deceased member. Knowing this, most of us agreed to move on as well. It was one of the most emotional concerts we have ever witnessed. Playing for an audience mourning the loss of a friend is simply unreal. The public was very warm and respectful towards us, since they did not know us more than the organizer of the event. We had no idea how they were going to react to our proposal. So we let everything flow. And it was well received. It was a kind of celebration of friendship and a reminder of how fleeting our journey through life is. A unique but sad experience at the same time.

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

9.(D.R.) It is something we would like to see happen soon but we understand that everything happens in due time. It is something that will happen sooner or later I have no doubt about it. We work hard to grow little by little with our proposal and make it known. DIY is a great medium for us but it poses many challenges, we cannot just cover it all. There are many labels out there that work very hard and take care of their artists. We hope soon we will have the opportunity to work together with one of them.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of post, doom and sludge metal?

10.(S.A.) The reaction in general has been very good, we have had many messages from people who have expressed their support or their good impression about the album. It is surprising and gratifying to see how many people connected in some way with what we did, even more so due to the fact that they have only heard it through a digital medium such as bandcamp. I think the majority connected with the essence of the proposal. We leave a lot there and perhaps that is perceived; he knew how to win the appreciation of many people. That for us is a success in itself.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

11.(D.R.)What we are currently working on has a more intense and aggressive character than what is embodied in The Ivy. It can be said that it will be more extreme but with the same emotional tune as always. It would be rash to talk about a particular style right now because as we work each idea decants and transforms into something different from what it was at first. There are many things that were left out of the debut album that were pending to continue working and experimenting so I can only predict that it will be more extreme than its predecessor, darker and more emotional.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

12.(S.A.) The influences are really many, but the main ones at the beginning were undoubtedly Neurosis, Isis, Amenra to name just a few. Each of us has acquired our influences over the years. We listen to all kinds of things like black metal, electronic, synth wave, crust punk, hardcore, ambient, industrial, power electronics, and jazz. But if there is something that we listen to a lot today, it is tango. Julio Sosa and Astor Piazzolla are our favorites. It is probably due to the influence of our parents, as their records used to be played frequently at home.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

13.(D.R) We invite everyone to enter this first work, which is only the beginning of a long journey. We leave a lot of ourselves there and surely something that many people will also find theirs. The music is a magnificent means to unite people with a positive purpose, for self-improvement and self - knowledge.

I, The Chaos Interview

For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

‘I, The Chaos’ is the sound of urban dystopia. Music to discomfort your senses, released via amplified instruments. An experimental, post-black, drone, noise road to sonic ecstasy.

So far you have released a single and have been a part of a split, musically how do they both differ from each other?

In our single ‘Landlady is Satan’,  we use a drum machine as the main instrument and build everything around its beats and rhythm. The split cassette release is, in a way, more representative of our present sound. Rhythmless and bass heavy.

So far all of your music has been instrumental, are you open to using any vocals on future releases?

Yes, it is in our future plans to use vocals, but in unconventional ways.

You also have listed post black metal in the music description, are future releases going to show you expanding on the influence?

We are planning to expand to post-black directions in some of our future releases, playing harder and faster and maybe adding some brutal vocals, too.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name ‘I, The Chaos’?

An atom’s endless struggle with itself is to put its inner chaos into some kind of order. We, in the other hand, have decided to give into chaos and become chaos ourselves.

Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

The core of ‘I, The Chaos’ is duality. But, we intend to act as a sound collective, having guest musicians play in our future releases.

Are there any shows planned once the pandemic is over?

Hopefully, once the pandemic is over, we will be able to plan live shows, which will be combined with dark and eerie visuals.

Recently you where a parts of  a split with ‘Six Steps Above The Earth’, what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

‘Six Steps Above The Earth’ is a band that we admire and it is one of the pioneers of this sound, in our hometown, Thessaloniki. It is a great influence on our sound and DIY attitude.

On a worldwide level how has the reactions to your music by fans of drone, experimental, noise, doom and post black metal?

The feedback we receive from the band’s social media is encouraging. Not all comments are positive, but even the negative ones motivate us to try harder.

When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Nowadays, tons of music is only a click away. This fact makes us adherents of EP or single releases, since we believe that it is not easy to spend a straight hour listening to a full length album. Now, regarding our musical destination, we would like to further experiment with the mixture of heavy bass riffs with sound textures and field recordings.

What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Sunn O))), Earth, Boris, Merzbow and Sonic Youth  are some of the acts that have an influence on our sound and music. Nowadays, we are listening to Dark Buddha Rising, Oranssi Pazuzu and some 20th century experimental music composers, like Henning Christiansen, Charlemagme Palaistine, Le Monde Young etc.

Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

No, neither Satanism nor Occultism play any role in our music. We are kind of atheists or agnostics. Religiousless.

Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

First of all, we would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to talk about our band and our music. Generally speaking, we would like music fans to be more supportive to their local underground scene and would love to see more bands turn to DIY.

Maybe yes, but who knows…. But if we decide it to happen, it will be more experimental.

4.When you had lyrics you mentioned they where from other bands and poets that you had an interest in, which artists did you take inspiration from lyrically.

This used to happen a long time ago because one of our members at the time contributed that to the group. Now we prefer to give messages with sounds exclusively.

The guitarist, the guy who is behind S.S.A.T.E used to live in an apartment that was precisely six steps above the earth.

In Arcadia Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

In Arcadia started off as a recording project that I could do at home, away from what I was doing in my other band Upcdownc. I wanted to try something different and thought it would be interesting to explore writing with synthesizers instead of using guitar as the lead instrument like I normally would. I would describe it as Dark Ambient Soundscapes.

2.You have a new album coming out in December, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

"Phon" is definitely the direction I had in mind when I started In Arcadia. My first album "From the Dark" was more about getting to grips with recording and writing songs using synths/keys which was relatively new to me. Quite a lot of "Phon" came from experimenting and improvising straight to tape which definitely made it a lot more free flowing. The album itself is divided into 3 main sections and each section builds around a lead instrument but it's supposed to be listened to as a whole, all in one sitting rather than separate songs.

3.In 2020 you have released a good amount of material, do you spend a great amount of your time writing and creating music?

I am definitely one of those people that is always with a guitar or an instrument in their hands. I'm lucky that a lot of my equipment is set up at all times so during any free moment I can plug something in and start playing around and then quickly throw a microphone in front of it and record it.

4.A lot of your music is sci-fi themed, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

I'm a big fan of movie soundtracks be it Sci-Fi or Horror and their use of synthesizer sounds. I was really fascinated by the War of the Worlds art work and soundtrack as a kid and the 2 original Terminator movies had a big influence on me. The sounds within those films are so important to the narrative and you can pretty much follow the story without the need for dialogue.

5.With this project you record everything by yourself but also have experience playing with a full band, how would you compare the two?

I think the main difference is that you don't really have anyone else to bounce your ideas off, but at the same time you are free to take any direction you want without worrying if everyone else is in to it. I guess you just have to trust your instincts more.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'In Arcadia'?

The name came from an episode of the X-files which sounds a bit geeky but I think I was watching the box set when I first started recording and thought it sounded like a good fit.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

When listening back to the album it had this other-worldly feel which conjured up different images and narratives depending on which part you listened to. I saw some images that my friend Yasmin El-Amery had drawn and thought the style would really work. She basically listened to the whole album and then drew three images that came to mind for each section. We spoke about certain colours that I thought might work but the images/design are all her ideas and I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I think it will be interesting to see how people interpret the images with the music when they sit and listen to it.

8.So far you have recorded a Zoom performance, are there any plans for live performances once the pandemic is over with?

I've not really thought much about live performances as of yet. The Zoom recording was part of a local event called Minimus which encourages people to improvise and everyone involved takes a turn to ad lib a small sound composition. It was fun to do so I'm hoping to do some more things like that once life gets back to some sort of normality. I did do another short improvisation for a project connected to Minimus where I recorded myself performing in a local fort which was quite fun, despite the rain. I used old tape players which I recorded loops onto along with a live guitar and the rain kind of added to the sounds and atmosphere which was cool.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of ambient, drone and noise?

People seem to be reacting positively. I don't really think it's on much of a worldwide scale quite yet, but I did sell a few of my last cassette in Canada, the US and Greece, as well as the UK which was nice. I'm just happy it's out there and people can access it.

10.What is going on with 'Upcdownc' these days?

We released our new album "Score" in September, also via Trepanation Recordings and sales and reviews have been positive. We started rehearsing again, mainly with the hope to get out and play some shows but have also recently started writing some new music for our next release so watch this space I guess.

11.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

As well as working on some new stuff with Upcdownc, I also have another band called Dead Mammals that will be releasing a full album next year. It's something I've been working on with a friend (who does the vocals) throughout 2020 and it explores a more Noise Rock/Post Punk direction that I've always wanted to do, which is very guitar and bass driven. I've also finished another In Arcadia project which will hopefully come out in 2021. It's definitely been a productive year.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I think the biggest influences on "Phon" have been the early Tangerine Dream albums like "Phaedra" and the album "Celestite" by Wolves in the Throne Room. Throughout the year I've been listening to quite a lot of albums from bands like Thou, Unwound and the new Metz album. I also recently heard the new Liturgy album called "Origin of the Alimonies" which I'm really getting into.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for the taking the time to do this interview and to anyone who reads it. Also a big thank you to Dan at Trepanation Recordings for the continued support. I hope people enjoy the album. Please also check out my other projects. Let's hope 2021 is a great year for everyone!

Aisumasen/Tunguska/Social Blasphemy Records/2020 Full Length Review

Aisumasen  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge,  funeral  doom,  death  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Tunguska"  which  was  released  by  Social  Blasphemy  Records.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  also  adds  in  the  heaviness  of  sludge  and  funeral  doom  metal.  Death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  one  of  the  songs  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  album.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  dark sounding  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  riffing  as  well  as  some  elements  of  alternative  and  post  metal  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

One  of  the  tracks  also  shows  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  as  well  as  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  album.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  songs  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  also being  utilized  at  times  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  end  times.
