Odyrmos Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

First of all i would like to thank you for your interest in Odyrmos. This project was existing as an idea for many years and finally it came to life early this year. It is a personal project created by my need to express different and diverse feelings through music.

2.In April you had released your first album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

What i had in mind was to create something very simple but yet very emotional. I want my music to be able to play with your imagination and your feelings. The main idea was to create something dark and slow no matter what style it will be labelled.

3.What are some of the themes and images you bring out in your music?

The whole story of "Eternal Sleep" is about a little girl whose parents recently died and she lives in a great mansion with her grandmother. She still mourns the loss of her parents and she seems unable to recover from that so she hopes for a grand finale to her life, a suicide. So the "Dearest Of Desires" ends up to a "Peaceful Death".

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Odyrmos'?

I wanted to find a greek word that describes as close as possible to the musical concept i had in mind and Odyrmos that means something like lament, grief and sorrow was the right one!

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

The front cover show the little girl of the story, wearing black as she mourns for the loss of her parents and at the same time dreaming for her salvation, only a few moments before her suicide.

6.Have you done any live shows with this musical project or open to the idea?

No, live shows is something very far away from the purpose of Odyrmos.

7.On the album you done a 'Rotting Christ' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

I am a big fan of black metal and dungeon synth and the early era of Rotting Christ is one of my favorites as they were too simple but yet so great. That's the feeling i want to emit through my music and any possible future cover will be done under this view.

8.The album was released on 'Depressive Illusions Records', how did you get in contact with this label?

After the recordings of "Eternal Sleep" i contacted several labels which are great in their style and philosophy and presented them my material. Depressive Illusions Records were the first to reply and being one of the most important underground labels in black metal, dark ambient and dungeon synth i was more than happy to release my debut under their wings.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of dark ambient, experimental and ritual?

Considering the music of Odyrmos balances between different musical styles i am happy with the feedback i have received so far. You know, i'm not strictly dungeon synth or black metal to have reaction from a specific audience. This mixture of feelings and musical styles is not so easy for someone who expects something more specific. But the release is almost sold out and i am happy for that.

10.Where do you see the project heading into musically during the future?

The second album is almost finished and i have to tell you it's on the same style pretty much. I have some thoughts about experimenting with black metal guitars in the future or some traditional greek sounds but still nothing for sure.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Influence comes from black metal and dungeon synth and of course the weeping doom/death metal. I am an openminded person and you can find in my playlist these days really different stuff, from Savatage and Stratovarius to Mgla, Saturnus, Mayhem even some Swans and Christian Death.

12.Does Occultism play any role on your music?

Only for the atmosphere i want to create. Besides that i'm of the opinion that music has nothing to do with any religion.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I want to thank you once again for your interest in Odyrmos and if anyone is interested in getting a physical copy of "Eternal Sleep" there are only a few left in the store of Depressive Illussions Records or by contacting me in Odyrmos bandcamp or facebook page.

Greetings from Greece!
