Urze de Lume/Bravios/2025 Full Length Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Portugal's  solo  project  Urze  de  Lume  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  neo-folk  style  with  elements  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ritual  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2025  and  called  "Bravious".

  Field  recordings  and  atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  the  synths  also  add  in  elements  of  ambient.  When  percussion  is  utilized  it  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction  along  with  some  folk  instruments  also  being  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album.

  Most  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction  while  the  music  also  captures  a  very  tribal,  shamanistic  and  medieval  atmosphere  at  times.  Each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  nature  sounds  can  also  be  heard  on  a  lot  of  songs.

  On  this  recording  Urze  de  Lume  focuses  more  on  an  instrumental  and  ritualistic  style  of  neo-folk  as  well  as  adding  in  touches  of  ambient,  drone  and  field  recordings  to  create  something  very  different.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  more  on  Iberian  Paganism,  Traditions  and  Occultism.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Urze  de  Lume  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  instrumental  and  ritualistic  neo-folk,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Besta  Soberana"  "Notrtada  Sanabresa"  "Fojos  de  Sangue"  and  "Expiritos  de  um  Crepusculo  Silvestre".  8  out  of  10.

  When  chants  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  more  of  a  shamanistic  atmosphere  while  acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album.  Most  of  the  songs  also  stick  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  touches  of  ethnic  and  world  music  and  the  recording  also  captures  a  very  medieval  atmosphere,  a  lot  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other.

  This  is  a  review  of  an  older  recording  from  Spain's  solo  project  Hiemis  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ritual  and  the  album  was  released  in  2022  and  called  "Yggdrasil".

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  nature  sounds  a  few  seconds  later  before  adding  in  some  synths  which  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  while  the  whispered  vocals  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  ritualistic  atmosphere  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Drones  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  some  tracks  also  add  in  some  tribal  style  percussion.  Some  of  the  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals  which  also  bring  in  more  of  an  ethereal  atmosphere  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  instrumentals.

  On  this  recording  Hiemis  takes  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ritual  to  create  a  very  tribal  and  primitive  approach  to  ancient  paganism  rituals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  Mythology.

The Infinity Ring/Nemesis & Nativity/Profound Lore Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  The  Infinity  Ring  are  a  band  from  the  New  England  region  of  the  United  States  that  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental  rock,  post  industrial,  drone,  noise  and  dark  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Nemesis  &  Nativity"  which  was  released  by  Profound  Lore  Records.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  playing  can  also be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  while  the  clear  vocals  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  folk  and  the  drum  beats  also  add  in  some  ritualistic  touches.

  The  album  also  has  its  avant  garde  and  mystical  moments  while  some  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.  When  harsh  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Industrial  style  rhythms  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  songs  also  showing  more  of  a  no  wave  influence,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  melodic  electric  guitar  leads  onto  the  album  and  noises  are  also  introduced  on  a  later  song  and  when  heavy  guitars  are  added  into  the  music  they  bring  in  the  heaviness  of  extreme  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Alchemy  and  Paganism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  The  Infinity  Ring  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  experimental  rock,  post industrial,  drone,  noise  and  dark  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Crown  Of  Stars"  "Pan  &  Syrinx"  "Orpheus  Dragonfly  Satyr"  and  "Prison,  Constraint".  8  out  of  10.

A Tribute To Bathory/Antichrist Magazine/Grand Sounds Promotions/2022 Compilation Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  compilation  of  bands  doing  cover  songs  from  Sweden's  Bathory  a  band  that  was  very  influential  on  the  black,  viking  and  thrash  metal  genres  as  well  as  being  considered  one  of  the  originators  of  black  metal,  the  album  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Antichrist  Magazine  and  Grand  SOunds  Promotion  and  we  will  review  each  track  one  by  one.

  Germany's  Reactorbeast  brings  us  "Hades"  which  they  mix  their  thrash  metal  style  in  with  the  first  wave  style  of  black  metal  style  of  the  song  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  more  German  approach  of  thrash  metal  vocals  to  the  track.

  Germany's  Hateful  Agony  brings  us  "Reaper"  where  they  take  the  classic  German  thrash  metal  style  along  with  the  first  wave  black  metal  rawness  of  the  genre  as  well a s  bringing  in  an  early  death  metal  approach  to  the  vocals.

  Italy's  Orgrel  brings  us  "Necromancy"  which  they  also  add  in  some  second  wave  touches  to  the  song  as  well  remaining  true  to  the  original  vision  of  the  track.  and  the  riffs  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Poland's  Vephar  brings  us  "Sacrifice"  where  they  take  this  song  and  change  things  around  their  old  school  style  of  death  metal  but  also  retaining  the  black  metal  elements  of  the  original  version.  

  Sweden/Indonesia's  Nattmaran  brings  us  "In  Conspiracy  With  Satan"  where  they  take  their  punk  influenced  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  also  bring  in  an  even  more  raw  version  of  the  original  song.  

  Slovakia's  Demonic-Eyed  brings  us  "Raise  The  Dead"  and  they  add  more  crust  and  hardcore  style  punk,  thrash  and  crossover  elements  in  which  where  not  presented  on  the  original  version  of  the  track.

  Norway's  Myrholt  brings  us  "War"  and  they  take  the  first  wave  nature  of  the  track  and  mixes  it  in  with  more  a  second  where  Norwegian  black  metal  metal  as  well  as  taking t he  vocals  into  more  of  an  aggressive  direction.

  Canada's  Winterhearth  brings  us  "Born  For  Burning"  where  they  take  the  song  into  more  of  modern  blackened  thrash  metal  direction  that  is  still  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  style  of  the  original.

  Sweden's  Helvetestromb  brings  us  "Sadist  (Tormentor)"  where  they  take  some  raw  black  metal  and  crust  punk  elements  in  to  create  a  song  that  is  more  brutal  than  the  original  version  of  the  track.

  Spain's  Gorguina  brings  us  "The  Return  Of  Darkness  And  Evil"  where  they  take  the  or9iginal  track  and  mixes  it  in  with  the  raw  aggression  of  the  second  wave  style  as  well  as  giving  the  vocals  more  of  a  grim  approach.  

  Poland's  Dominance  bring s us  "Massacre"  and  they  also  take  the  music  into  more  of  a  raw  second  wave  black  metal  style  than  the  original  version  as  well a s  taking  the  vocals  approach  into  more  of  an  aggressive  direction.

  Spain's  Nuclear  Revenge  brings  us  "Woman  Of  Dark  Desires"  and  they  also  bring  in  more  modern  blackened  thrash  metal  touches  to  the  track  as  well  as  remaining  true  to  the  old  school  vision  of  the  song.          

  Australia's  Zkarv  brings  us  "Call  From  The  Grave"  and  also  adds  in  some  ambient  elements  to  update  the  song  for the  modern  era  as  well  as  keeping  the  tracks  man  focus  rooted  in  more  of  a  black  metal  style.

  Italy's  Avtotheism  brings  us  "Equimanthorn"  which  starts  out  with  some  synths  before  going  into  more  of  a  brutal  and  technical  direction  of  death  metal  as  well  as  retaining  the  black  metal  elements  of  the  original  version.

  United  Kingdom's  Craven  Idol  brings  us  "Chariots  Of  Fire"  which  also  brings  in  more  of  a  horror  movie  vibe  than  the  original  version  as  well  as  adding  in  a  lot  more  rawness  of  brutality  to  the  track.  

  Poland's  Mystic  Rites  brings  us  "A  Fine  Day  To  Die"  which  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  as  well  as  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clear  vocals  before  going  into  more  of  an  aggressive  black  metal  direction.

  U.S.A's  Luminous   Veil  brings  us  "For  Those  Who  Die"  which  starts  out  with  some  epic  battle  sounds  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  adds  in  a  more  modern  black  metal  approach  to  the  original  version.

  Netherlands's  Gorge  Of  War  brings  us  "Dies  Irae"  which  he  takes  the  original  and  mixes  it  in  with  some rawer  black/war  metal  touches   and  experimental  elements  but  keeping  the  song  very  brutal.

  Scotland's  Nemeta  brings  us  "Shores  In  Flames"  which  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  also  done  in  a  very  clear  pagan  style  as  well a s  adding  in  some  blast beats  and  grim  black  metal  screams  that  where  not  present  in  the  original  version.

  Italy's  Spiritual  Deception  brings  us  "Father  To  Son"  which  they  take  into  more  of  a  brutal  death  metal  direction  that  is  very  different  from  the  original  version  as  well  as  sounding  like  a  complete  different  track.

  Italy's  Ardeat  brings  us  "Home  Of  Once  Brave"  which  they  take  into  more  of  a  brutal  blackened  death  emtal  style  that  is  completely  different  from  the  original  viking  metal  version  of  the  songs.

  New  Zealand's  Beltane  brings  us  "One  Rode  To  Asa  Bay"  which  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  being  very  melodic  at  the  same  time  and  the  band  stays  away  from  the  black  metal  approach  of  their  original  material  to  remain  true  to  the  classic  viking  metal  style  of  the  song.

  Italy's  Hymnodya  brings  us  "Under  The  Runes"  which  is  a  lot  more  in  a  death  metal  style  than  the  original  while  also  keeping  the  viking  metal  spirit   that  was  very present  on  the  track  when  it  was  released. 

  U.S.A's  Ob  Nixilis  brings  us  "Bond  Of  Blood"  which  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  before  going  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  viking/black  metal  direction  which  also  mixes  in  a lot  of  melodic  death  metal  elements.

  Australia's  Heathen  Foray  brings  us  "Man  Of  Iron"  which  they  mix  some  melodic  death  metal  and  pagan  black  metal  elements  into  the  track  as  well  as  keeping  the  feeling  of  the  original  track.   

  Chile's  Raving  Panic  brings  us  "The  Stallion"  which  is  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  epic  pagan  metal  style  while  also  adding  in  some  elements  of  folk  metal  and  the  track  also s ticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  Brazil's  Hellish  War  brings  us  "The  Woodwoman"  which  starts  out  with  some  acoustic  guitars  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clear  power  metal  style.

  Brazil's  brave  brings  us  "Gods  Of  Thunder  Of  Wind  And  Of  Rain"  where  they  take  the  track  from  Bathory's  viking  metal  era  and  give  it  more  of  a  power  or  traditional  metal  touch as  well  as  keeping  the  heaviness  of  the  original.

  Italy's  Altar  Of  The  Witch  brings  us  "Nordland"  a  track  that  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  an d  they  take  the  viking  metal  style  of  the  original  and  mixes  it  in  with  elements  of  traditional  doom  metal.

  Columbia's  no  Raza  brings  us  "Ring  Of  Gold"  which  starts  out  with  some  acoustic  guitars  and  synths  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction  and  the  band  also  brings  in  more  of  a  death  metal  style  to  the  song.

  Brazil's  Buaiteoir  brings  us  "Foreverdark  Woods"  a  track  that  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  band  also  brings  in  more  elements  of  folk  music  to  create  a  different  version  of  the  original  song  as  well  as  remaining  true  to  its  pagan  roots.

  Brazil's Battle  Raven  brings  us  "Mother  Earth,  Father  Thunder"  which  starts  out  with  some  clear  pagan  chants  and  vocals  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  yet  melodic  direction  that  also  captures  a  very  epic  atmosphere.

  Italy's  Manehidag  closes  the  compilation  with  "Vinland"  where  they  take  the  viking  metal  style  of  the  original  version  and  also  mix  it  in  with  a  touch  of  black  metal style  to create  a  more  original  version.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a very  great  sounding  compilation  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  fans  of  all  of  the  different  phases  of  Bathory.  8  out  of  10.

Nanna Barslev/Lysbærer/Norse music/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Nanna  Barslev  is  a  solo  artist  from  Norway  that  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental  and  Nordic  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2022  album  "Lysbærer"  which  was  released  by  Norse  Music.

  Nordic  folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  experimental  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  all  done  in  a  very  clean  yet  ethereal  style  while  the  songs  also  capture  the  atmosphere  of  the  Viking  era  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  The  drum b eats  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  tribal  feeling  while  touches  of  electronic  music  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  modern  direction.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  growls  and  whispers  as  the  recording  progresses.  

  Nanna  Barsley  plays  a  musical  style  that takes  experimental,  electronic  music  and  Nordic  Folk  music  and  mixes  it  in  with  some  ethereal  style  vocals  to  create  a  sound  of  her  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Nordic  Folklore  and  mythology  from  the  Eddas.

  In  my  opinion  Nanna  Barsley  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  experimental  and  Nordic  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Runebundet"  "Askr"  "Jagtmarker"  and  "Sten".  8  out  of  10.

Rome/Hegemonikon/Tristol Music Group/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Luxemborg's  solo  project  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going for  a  mixture  of  dark  folk,  industrial,  martial,  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Hegemonikon"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Tristol  Music  Group.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  adding  some  clear  neo-folk  style  vocals  onto  the  recording.  Martial  style  drum b eats  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  stringed  instruments  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  at  times.

  The  songs  also  mix  in  a decent  mixture  of  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  elements  while  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks.  Touches  of  post  industrial  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  long  with  a  later  song  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  and  everything  song  also  sticks  to  a  slower  musical  direction.

  On  this  recording  Rome  takes  dark  folk,  post  industrial,  martial,  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  sounding  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  matters  of  the  European  soul  in  an  ever-charging  modern  world  with  some  poetic  and  philosophical  views.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Rome  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  folk,  industrial,  martial,  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Slaughter  Of  Crows"  "Surely  Ash"  "Solar  Caesar"  and  "New  Flags".  8  out  of  10.

Moirai/Blood Treasure, Woven Fates/Kunsthall/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Moirai  are  an  international  duo  with  embers  from  Switzerland  and  U.S.A  that  plays  a  very  experimental  form  of  medieval  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Blood  Treasure,  Woven  Fates"  which  was  released  by  Kunsthall.

  Folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  female  vocals  and  chants  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  medieval  feeling.  Flutes  and  fiddles  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  while  some  of  the  songs  are  also instrumentals.  Stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  more  of  a  middle  ages  atmosphere.    

  Morirai  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  medieval  music  and  mixes  it  with  experimental  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Old  Icelandic,  Nordic  and  German  Paganism  and  Mythology.

  In my  opinion  Morrai  are  a  very  great  sounding  3experimental  medieval  music  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Voluspa  I"  "Gudrun"  and  "Atli".  8 out  of  10.

Wardruna/Kvitran First Flight Of The White Raven/Norse Music/2022 Double Album Review

 

  Wardruna  are  a  band  from  Norway  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  pagan  neo-folk,  ritual  and  world  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2022  double  album  "Knitravn  -  First  Flight  of  the  White  Raven"  which  was  released  by  Norse  Music.

  Melodic  chants  and  vocals  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  yet  ritualistic  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later.  Folk  instruments  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  drum  beats  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  tribal  atmosphere  and  synths  ae  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  tracks.  

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  male  and  female  vocals  while  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  A  great  portion  of  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  nature  sounds  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  as  well  as  the  recording  also  having  its  medieval  moments.  

 Elements  of  world  music  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  whispers  also  enhancing  the  ritualistic  vibe  of  the  songs  when  they  are  utilized as  well  a s one  song  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  into  the  music  and  the  second  side  is  a  live  set. The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Norse  Paganism,  Northern  Sorcery.  Spirit-Animals,  Animalism,  Nature  and  Shadows.

  Darja  Kazimira  is  a  solo  artist  from  Latvia  that  plays  an  improvised  and  shamanistic  mixture  of  experimental  and  ritual  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Medea  Forgives  Jason"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Bell's  and  field  recordings  start  off  the  album  while  the  shamanistic  style  throat  singing  and  chants  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction.  Percussions  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  tribal  atmosphere  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Whispers  can  also be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  music  also  goes  into  a  very  experimental  direction  at  times.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  enhance  the  occult  vibe  of  the  recording  along  with  the  chants  also  having  their  melodic  moments  as  well  as  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other,  elements  of  ethnic  music  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album,  as  the  recording  progresses  a  small  amount  of  stringed  instruments  are  also  added  on  a  song.

  Danja  Kazimira  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  experimental  and  ritual  music  and  mixes  it  with  shamanistic  music  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  as  well  as  all  of  the  album  being  improvised.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while t he  song  themes  are  inspired  by  the  anthropological  philosopher  Rene  Girard  and  Euripides  tragedy  "Medea".

  Undirheimar  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  ritualistic  and  shamanistic  form  of  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "Vardlokkur"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  law.

  Shamanistic  style  drumming  starts  off  the  ep  while  atmospheric  sounding  drones  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  synths  also  bringing  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  when  they  are  utilized  and  the  throat  singing  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  ritualistic  atmosphere.

  Touches  of  minimalism  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  percussion  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  of  the  songs.  All  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  a  lot  of  the  music  also  sounding  like  an  improvised  pagan  ritual  and  whispered  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.

  On  this  recording  Underheimar  takes  dark  ambient  and  shamanistic  ritual  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while t he  song  themes  focus  on  Thurisan  Sorcery.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Undirheimar  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ritual,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Galdra".

  Draugurrinn  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  folk  and  ritualistic  drone  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Minningar  úr  Undirheimum"  which  was  released  by  Nordvis  Produktion.  

  Dark  ambient  style  synths  which  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  drones  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  goes  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction  while  percussion  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of t he  recording  and  also  adds  in  more  shamanistic  and  tribal  touches.

  Grim  voices  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  also  shows  an  influence  of  black  metal  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  very  ancient  pagan  orientated  atmosphere.  Melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  folk  instruments  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  NYIÞ  are  a  musical  project  from  Iceland  that  plays  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  ambient  and  drone  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  double  album  "᛬ᚢᛁᛋᚿᛁ•ᚼᛆᛏᛁ•ᚼᚱᛅ᛬"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Ambient  style  synths  which  also  adds  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  and  atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Drums  can  also b e  heard  in  the  background  at  times  and  some  of  the  songs  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  while  also  mixing  in  a  very  dark  yet  haunting  atmosphere  at  times.  Guitar  orientated  drones  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  folk  instruments  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  the  use  of  black  metal  screams,  ritualistic  throat  singing  and  melodic  chants.

  Ritualistic  bell's  can  also b e  heard  briefly  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  eastern  mysticism along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  also  enhances  the  occult  atmosphere  of  the  recording,  clean  playing  and  slide  guitars  can also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  based  upon  a  17th  century  Icelandic  Grimoire. 

  In  my  opinion  NYIÞ  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  mixture  of  ambient  and  drone  and  if  you  are  a f an  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  project.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Decompose"  "Lilith"  "Fjorbrot"  and  "Rot".  8  out  of  10.

  FrazyL  are  a  solo  project  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  dungeon  synth  and  neo-classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Mon  ODyssee"  which  will  be  released  on  January  21st  by  Epictronic.

  Ocean  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dungeon  synth  style  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  add  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  ambient  and  neo-classical  elements.

  Nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  add  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.  When  stringed  instruments  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  a  fantasy  movie soundtrack  set  in  the  medieval  era.  Percussion  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  When  melodic  chants  and  clean  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  pagan  orientated  atmosphere  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  briefly,  all  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  and  a  couple  of  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals.

  Dark  ambient  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  synths  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals  and  a  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Russia's  Nytt  Land  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  ritualistic  style  of  nordic  folk  music  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Ritual"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Napalm  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Nature  sounds  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  touches  of  ambient  also  being  used  at  times  and  when  drum beats  and  percussion  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

  Chants,  throat  singing  and  clean  female  and  male  vocals  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  folk  instruments  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmosphere  and  meditative  sounding  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  programmed  beats.

Some  tracks  also  adding  in  flutes,  horns,  mouth-harps  and  ethnic  instruments  to  enhance  the  folk  side  of  the  music  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Shamanism,  Norse  and  Slavic  Paganism  and  Mythology.

  Russia's  Nytt  Land  have  returned  with  a  recording  from  2017  which  shows  their  earlier  ritualistic  style  of  Nordic  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  from  that  year  "Fimbulvinter"  which  was  re-issued  in  2021  by  Cold  Spring.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  Siberian  style  throat  singing  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  vocals  and  chants  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  give  the  music  more  of  a  shamanistic  atmosphere.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

  Percussion's  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  tribal  feeling.  Folk  instruments  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  album  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  samples  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album.

  Male  chants  and  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  ethnic  music  touches.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  pagan  era  Europe,  one  of  the  later  tracks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  guitars.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  paganism  themes  based  upon  sources  from  the  Poetic  Edda.
