Sunn 0)))/Pyroclasts/Southern Lord Records/2019 CD Review

U.S.A's  Sunn 0)))  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mix  of  drone,  sludge  and  doom  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Pyroclasts" which  was  released  by  Southern  Lord  Records.

Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  slow  and  heavy  riffs  are  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  sludge  and  doom  metal  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  an  improv  atmosphere  at  times  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumental.

All  of  the  songs  are  instrumental  while  the  bass  guitar  also  brings  in  very  dominating  and  powerful  presence  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.  Experimental  elements  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  distorted  sounding  melodies  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

On  this  recording  Sunn 0)))  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  drone,  sludge  and  doom  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  recordings  while  also  keeping  everything  instrumental  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sunn 0)))  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kingdoms"  and  "Ascension".  8  out  of  10.

Sunn 0)))/Kannon/Southern Lord Recordings/2015 CD Review

Sunn  0)))  have  returned  with  a  new  album  continuing  the  doom/drone  metal  mixture  of  previous  recordings  and  this is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Kannon"  which  was  released  by  Southern  Lord  Recordings.

A  very  dark  and  distorted  ambient  drone  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  distorted  and  noisy  reverb's  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  guitar  riffs  making  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  after  awhile  grim  vocals  make  their  presence  known  on the  recording  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

All  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  you  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  elements  throughout the  recording  and  when  clean  singing  is  used  briefly  it  adds  more  of  an  occult  like  atmosphere  to  the  music  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  musical  direction  and  on  the  last  track  black  metal  screams  are  added  into  the  music.

Sunn  0)))  creates  another  album  that  remains  true  to  the  drone/doom  metal  sound  of  previous  recordings  while  also  getting  a  bit  more  ritualistic  and  experimental  this  time  around, the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  Asian  beliefs  systems  and  Eastern Esotericism.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Sunn  0)))  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Kannon  3".  8  out  of 10.

Sunn 0 )))/Void/Southern Lord Records/2011 CD Re-Issue Review

Sunn 0 ))) are a band from California that plays a very dark and experimental form of drone/doom metal and this is a review of their 2000 album "Void" which was re-issued by Southern Lord Records during the year of 2011.

There are no drums presented on this recording, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with some dark/drone/doom metal riffs that dominate throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars are all sludge/drone/doom metal riffs that are very dark and slow sounding mixed in with a good amount of distortion and there are no guitar leads or solos present on this recording.

Vocals on this recording which are very rare are mostly ritualistic chants, while the violins when they are briefly utilized bring a very dark and avant garde feeling to the music, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion this was a great album from Sunn 0))) and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "NN 0))" and "Ra At Dusk". RECOMMENDED BUY.
