  Nanna  Barslev  is  a  solo  artist  from  Norway  that  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental  and  Nordic  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2022  album  "Lysbærer"  which  was  released  by  Norse  Music.

  Nordic  folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  experimental  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  all  done  in  a  very  clean  yet  ethereal  style  while  the  songs  also  capture  the  atmosphere  of  the  Viking  era  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  The  drum b eats  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  tribal  feeling  while  touches  of  electronic  music  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  modern  direction.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  growls  and  whispers  as  the  recording  progresses.  

  Nanna  Barsley  plays  a  musical  style  that takes  experimental,  electronic  music  and  Nordic  Folk  music  and  mixes  it  in  with  some  ethereal  style  vocals  to  create  a  sound  of  her  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Nordic  Folklore  and  mythology  from  the  Eddas.

Dperd/Monsters/My Kingdom Music/2021 CD Review

 

  Italy's  Dperd  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  decadent  and  ethereal  style  of  darkwave  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Monsters"  which  was  released  by  My  Kingdom  Music.

  Clean  playing  and  distorted  sounds  start  off  the  album  while  the  keyboards  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  darkwave  elements.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clean  yet  ethereal  style  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  rock  and  pop  music  elements  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  heavier  riffing.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  along  with  some  influences  of  80's  era  gothic  rock  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  some  songs  also  adding  in  male  vocals,  a s the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  mellotron's  and  trumpet's  can  also  be  heard  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  On  this  recording  Dperd  remain  true  to  the  ethereal  style  of  darkwave  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics   cover  melancholic  themes.

  All  My  Faith  Lost...  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  ethereal,  darkwave,  goth,  dark  ambient  and  neo-folk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Untitled"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Dark  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in  elements  of  neo-folk.  Vocals  are  done  in  a  very  clean  ethereal  style  which  also  adds  in  some  touches  of  goth  and  darkwave  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  stringed  instruments  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  tragic  and  poetic  atmosphere  while  also  adding  in  some  medieval  touches.  Male  vocals  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  a  later  track  also  introducing  whispered  vocals  onto  the  recording.  

  All  My  Faith  Lost...  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  ethereal,  darkwave,  goth,  darkwave,  dark  ambient  and  neo-folk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of t heir  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  covers  surrealism,  human  estrangement  from  nature,  death,  afterlife,  Greek  Mythology  and  the  darker  aspects  of  love.

  Aythis  are  a  solo  project  from t he  Netherlands  that  plays  a  mixture  of  shoegaze,  post  rock,  ethereal,  ambient,  neo-classical  and  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  self  released  2021  album  "Secrets  From  Below".

  Ambient  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  while  the  clean  playing  also  adds  in  elements  of  post  rock  and  shoegaze.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  a  very  clean  yet  ethereal  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  When  electric  guitars  are  utilized  they  also  add  an  influence  of  doom  metal  onto  the  recording  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Some  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  percussion  along  with  the  tracks  also  showing  influences  of  gothic  and  alternative  rock  as  well  as  the  album  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  neo-classical  at  times.  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  recording  closes  with  a  cover  of  the  Twin Peals  theme  "Falling".

  Leila  Abdul-Rauf  is  a  solo  artist  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  ethereal  and  experimental  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2021  album  "Phantasial"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  the  synths  which  also  uses  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient.  When  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  ethereal  atmosphere  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  some  distorted  sounds.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  while  some  of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  having  their  cinematic  moments  along  with  some  live  trumpets  and glockenspiel  also  being  utilized  more  as  the  album  progresses.

  On  this  recording  :Leila  Abdul-Rauf  takes  dark  ambient,  drone,  experimental  and  thereal  and  mixes  them  together  to  take  her  sound  to  a  different  level.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  are  inspired  by  Hellenistic  Philosophy.

  Morningstar  Delirium  are  a  duo  from  Colorado  with  members  of  Dreadnaught  and  The  Flight  of  Sleipnir  and  plays  a  mixture  of  ethereal  wave,  post  punk,  dark  industrial,  goth,  shoegaze,  drone,  downtempo  and  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  and  self  released  2021  ep.    

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  programmed  beats  a  few  seconds later  which  also  introduces  elements  onto  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clean  yet  ethereal  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  some  downtempo  touches  and  electric  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  ambient  style  keyboards  and  synths.  Real  drums  are  also  utilized  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  showing  some  influences  of  of  goth  and  post  punk,  male  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  shoegaze  style  sounds  are  also  utilized  more  as  the  ep  progresses.

  Unalei  are  a  musical  project  from  Italy  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  ethereal,  goth, progressive  and  folk  with  some  touches  of  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2020  album  "Galatea".

  Classical  music  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  brief  use  of  nature  sounds  while  the acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music  when  they  are  utilized.  Vocals  are  mostly  done  in  a  clean  style  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  some  symphonic  and  orchestra  sounds  and  the  electric  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  then  while  the  music  also  captures  a  goth  orientated  atmosphere  at  times.  When  female  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  ethereal  and  operatic  atmosphere  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  percussion's.

  The  songs  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  types  of  folk  instruments,  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  whispered  vocals  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  songs  also  being  instrumentals  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  Italian,  Spanish,  Russian  and  English  and  is  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  discovery  of  roots  through  time  and  space.

  Sweden's  Aracana  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  went  for  a  mixture  of  darkwave,  ethereal,  dark  ambient  and  neo  classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2002  album  "Inner  Pale  Sun"  which  was  re-issued  in  2020  by  Cyclic  Law.

  A  very  dark  and  symphonic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  synths  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  ambient  elements  as  well  as  using  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.  Percussion's  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  tribal  feeling  along  with  some  operatic  voices  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Touches  of  neo  classical  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  clean  goth  rock  style.  Whispers  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  music  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  acoustic  guitars  and  Dulcimer's  as  well  as  the  chants  also  giving  the  music  more  of  an  ethereal  atmosphere.

All  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other.  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  an  instrumental.  along  with  the  tracks  also  capturing  a  medieval  atmosphere.   Ulvestad  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  plays  an  ethereal  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  drone  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Fall"  which  was  released  on  november  27th  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  while  also  being  calm  for  a  moment  before  introducing  dark  ambient  style  synths  onto  the  recording.  The  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  atmospheric  sounding  drones  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  some  nature  sounds  at  times  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

  All  of  the  songs  also  have  a  very  different  sound  to  them  while  also  adding  in  a  very  ethereal  sounding  atmosphere  into  some  part  of  the  recording.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  dark  and  violent  sounding  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  background  voices  as  well  as  most  of  the  music  also  being  instrumental.

  Ulvestad  plays  a  musical  style  that takes  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ethereal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  contemporary  texts  of  death  and  the  moments  gone  to  Norse  ideas  gone  to youth.

  In  my  opinion  Ulvestad  are  a  very  great  sounding  ethereal  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  drone  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "PAN"  and  "Aisling".  8  out  of  10.

  Clean  guitars  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  album  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  darkwave  style  along  with  the  clean  vocals  also  giving  the  music  more  of  an  ethereal  feeling.

  Elements  of  gothic  rock  can  also  be  heard  in  the  songs while  the  keyboards  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  also  uses  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  distortion  and  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Luigi  Tenco's  "Un  Giorno  Dopo  L' Altro".

  This  is  a  review  of  a  collaboration  album  between  Greece's  Dark  Awake  and  Regard  Extreme  which  mix  martial,  industrial,  neo-classical, epic, ethereal  and  dark  ambient  together  and  the  album  was  released  in  2018  by  La  Esencia  Records  and  is  called  "The  Odyssey".

  Field  recordings  and  atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  stringed  and  folk  instruments  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  ambient  elements  along  with  the  synths  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  instrumentals.

  Elements  of  neo-classical  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  martial  drum  beats  are  also  brought  into  the  music  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  operatic  female  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Dark  Awake  and  Regard  Extreme  mix  their  2  different  styles  together  and  create  a  recording  that  mixes  martial,  industrial,  neo-classical,epic, ethereal  and  dark  ambient  together  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  based  upon  Homer's  "The  Odyssey".

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collaboration  from  Dark  Awake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of   martial,  industrial,  neo-classical,epic, ethereal  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Towards  A  Long  Journey"  "Circe(Metamorphosis)"  "The  Island  Of  Sun  God  (Helios)"  and  "Ithaca  (The  Return  Of  The  King)".  8  out  of  10.

Leila Abdul-Rauf Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on since the recording of the album?

I’ve been quite busy preparing for this release - making sure artwork and layout are approved, assisting in the press release, doing interviews, etc. Also booking shows, local and abroad, with multiple projects for the entire year, recording for various collaborations, preparing for the new Ionophore album release which will follow this one, and writing a new album with Cardinal Wyrm.

2.You have your 3rd solo album coming out in March, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have done in the past?

Diminution is more musical in the traditional sense, and more improvisational, than the previous records. I rely more on acoustic instruments than synth patches - more trumpet, guitar and piano. The previous album Insomnia featured several guests, but the new album is just me on my own again. I still make use of field recordings and loops like I have on previous albums, but recorded more live performances this time.

3.The music on the solo albums are a lot different from the stuff that you recorded with a few of the extreme metal bands that you are a part of, do you feel you have a lot to offer to many different musical genres?

I can’t think of anything more boring than playing just one kind of music. I need multiple creative outlets to feel satisfied and to feel that all of my ideas are getting across.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored on the solo albums?

They’ve varied from personal loss to insomnia to artistic struggles in 21st century life.

5.You also play a variety of many different musical instruments, what are some of the instruments that you enjoy working with the most?

Guitar is what I am best at, but I make the best of my trumpet and piano playing, and use those instruments in my own unrefined way. I also enjoy making field recordings (distant train whistles and summer crickets are some of the things I’ve recorded). I sing a little too.

6.The album is also being released on 3 different labels, can you tell us a little bit more about the labels you worked with on the new recording?

Malignant Records is releasing the CD and specialize mainly in underground dark ambient, industrial, and noise artists. Cloister Recordings and Black Horizons are releasing a very limited vinyl edition, and specialize in similar kinds of artists but cross over into other genres too (e.g. dark folk, post rock).

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork on the new album?

Matthew Jaffe did a set of 3 beautiful paintings for the cover. We’ve been friends for a long time, and I’ve always been a fan of his art, so it was great to finally work with him for one of my albums.

8.How has the feedback been to your solo work by your fans so far?

The reviews have been consistently positive for the past two albums. I’m blown away by all of the great feedback I’ve received from fans.

9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician in the future?

I see myself continuing what I’ve been doing for a long time: writing, recording and playing live. I hope I stay healthy in mind and body to continue doing so for as long as I can.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Watching :zoviet*france live in 2011 was the catalyst that inspired me to begin a solo project. Harold Budd and Erik Satie are major influences on my piano playing. I dedicate a song on the new album to Pauline Oliveros, one of the pioneers of early electronic music and renowned professor/educator in experimental music circles. I also still love listening to metal, late 70s/early 80s synth pop and post punk, classical (Baroque and late 19th/early 20th century composers in particular).

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

I enjoy biking, hiking, meditation, reading and watching films (documentaries, sci-fi, noir). To the best that I am capable, I try to live a life full of compassion, learning and self-growth.

  Leila  Abdul-Raif  is  a  solo  artist  from  San  Francisco,  California  that  plays  a  mixture  of  of  experimental,  drone,  ethereal, and  soundscape  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2018  album  "Diminution"  which  will  be  released  in  April  as  a  joint  effort  between  Cloister  Recordings,  Black  Horizons,  and  Malignant  Records.

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ethereal  sounding  trumpets  which  also  bring  in  elments  of  jazz  music  while  the  music  also  gives  in  a  great  amount  of  ambient  soundscapes  along  with  some  female  vocals  being  added  after  awhile  and  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  ethereal   feeling.

  Drones  can  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  give  the  music  more  of  a  melancholic  atmosphere  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  all  instrumental  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  variety  and  guitars  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Leila  Abdul-Raif  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  experimental,  dark  ambient,  drone,  soundscape  and  ethereal  music  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  her  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark and  melancholic  themes.

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  elements  of  neo-classical  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  ambient  style  atmosphere  as  well  as a  great  amount  of  programmed  beats  and  most  of  the  music  is  instrumental  and  always  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction,  nature  sounds  are  also  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  can  also be  heard.

Gridfailure/When The Lights Go Out Vol. One/2017 EP Review

  New  York's  Gridfailure  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  ethereal,  ambient  and  abstract  soundscapes  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2017  ep  "When  The  Lights  Go  Out  Vol.  One".

  Dark  ambient  soundscapes  and  drones  start  off  the  ep  while  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  at  times  and  after  awhile  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  When  percussion  it  utilized  it gives  the  music  more  of  a  tribal  feeling  while  some  tracks  also  mix  in  elements  of  harsh  noise  along  with  some  theremin's  also  being  utilized  at times  and  as  the  ep  progresses  guitars,  synths  and  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  the  music  capturing  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie  soundtrack.

  On  this  recording  Gridfailure  creates  more  of  a  horror  movie  orientated  soundtrack  while  still  mixing  in  elements  of  ethereal,  ambient  and  experimental  music  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gridfailure  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  horror  soundscapes,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "It  Came  From  In  There"  "The  Path"  and  "Howling  Breed".  8  out  of  10.

Black Mare/Death Magick Mother/Magic Bullet Records/2017 CD Review

  Black  Mare  are  a  solo  project  from  Los  Angeles,  California  that  plays  an  ethereal  mixture  of  atmospheric  rock,  darkwave  and  goth  and  this  is  a  review  of  her  2017  album  "Death  Magick  Woman"  which will  be  released  in  September  by  Magic  Bullet  Records.

  Clean  playing  along  with  some  drones  start  off  the  album  as  well  as  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  darkwave  and  post  rock  elements  and  the  vocals  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  ethereal  and  goth  style.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  while  some  goth  rock  and  death  rock  influences  from  the  80's  and  90's  are  also  used  at  times  but  done  in  a  more  modern  fashion  along  with  some  male  vocals  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  on  some  of  the  tracks  the  guitars  get  more  distorted  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  a  touch  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.

  Black  Mare  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  atmospheric  rock,  darkwave  and  goth  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  her  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  hidden  realms,  fragments  of  dreams,  submerged  memories  and  mythological  imagery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Black  Mare  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  atmospheric  rock,  ethereal,  darkwave  and  goth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ingress  To  Form"  "Coral  Vaults"  and  "Inveted  Tower".  8  out  of  10.

Dperd/V/My Kingdom Music/2016 CD Review

 Dperd  are  a  band  from  Itsly  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  etherial  darkwave  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "V"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  My  Kingdom  Music.

  Electronic  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  programmed  beats,  bass  guitars and  female  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  guitars  add  in  a  flavor  of  darkwave  and  all  of  the  musical  instrunments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  leads.

  Elements  of  goth  rock  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  some  of  the  synths  also  bring  in  a  touch  of  70's  psychedelic  rock and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  some  songs  also  bring  in  influences  from  80's  synth  pop  and  new  wave  and  as  the  album  progresses  electric  guitars  start  being  utilized  more  and  you  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  diversity  throughout  the  recording.

  Dperd  creates  another  ethereal  darkwave  album  that  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  atmosphere,  melodies,  darkness  and  depression,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Latin  and  English  and  cover  melancholic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dperd  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Believe  In  You  Song"  "The  Way  Down  Song"  "But  I  Love  You  Song"  and  "They  Do  Know Song".  8  out  of  10.

  France's  Day Before  Us  have  returned  with  a  new  album  continuing  the  neo-classical, ethereal  and  dark  ambient  mixture  of  their  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review of  their  2015  album  "Prelude a 'lame d'elegie"  which  was  released  by  Opn.fr.


  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  dark  ambient  direction  and  most  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  also  being  very  atmospheric throughout  most  of  the  recording  and  the  keyboards  also  bring  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys.

  Spoken  word  samples  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  drone  are  added  into  the  music  on  more  of  a  regular basis  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  operatic  female  vocals  and  a  later  track  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  guitars  along  with  some  traces  of  electronic  music  and  darkwave and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  male vocals  that  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  goth  feeling.

  Day  Before  Us  creates  another  recording  that  mixes  ambient, drone  and  neo  classical  while  also  adding  in  more  variety  and  atmosphere  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  dark  and  poetic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Day  before  us  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient  and  neo  classical,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ecstasy  Of  the  Stigmatist"  "Talk Room"  and  "Rise  Of  Elegeia".  8  out  of  10.
