Memory/Creating A Lucid Dream/2014 Full Length Album Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Memory  which  shows  the  band  continuing  their  experimental  sound  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "Creating  A  Lucid  Dream".

  Harsh  noises  and  drones  start  off  the  album  and  on  the  following  track  electric  and  acoustic  guitars  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  some  guitar  leads  and  ethnic  music  elements  which  also  leads  up  to  some  synths  and  more  atmospheric  musical  sounds  being  added  onto  the  recording.

  As  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  raw  black  metal  elements  and  high  pitched  screams  being  added  into  the  recordings  musical  sound  and  there  is  also  a  long  and epic  track  that  is  over  9   minutes  long  and  it  has  a  more  middle  eastern  style  of  sound  to  it  which  also  continues  on  some  of  the  other  tracks  as  well.

  On  the  5th  track  melodic  vocals  make  their  way  onto  the  album  and  there  are  also  some  elements  of  folk  and  psychedelic  music  that  start  popping  up  in  the  music  which  leads  to  the  band  going  into  a  more  neo-folk  musical  direction  for  a  few  songs  before  mixing  some  doom  metal  elements  and  drones  with  that  style  which  also  leads  to  the  music  also  getting  more  militant  and  medieval  in  style  but  in  a  more  modern  style  as  well  as  being  mixed  in  with  other  musical  genres  and  after  being  in  a  folk  direction  for  a  long  time  the  music  starts  going  for  more  of  an  industrial  direction  on  one  song  before  going  back  to  a  more  folk  orientated  sound  on  the  following  tracks  as  well  as  adding  in  blast  beats  and  jazz  style  drumming  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  more  drone  style  tune

  Memory  creates  a   very  different  sounding  record  this  time  around  adding  in  more  black  metal,  doom,  folk  and  industrial  into  their  musical  sound,  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  raw  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Memory  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  music  that  cannot  be  categorized,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Miamist"  "Illegal  Emotions  Anoint  Me,  Born  For  Sacrifice"  "River  Of  Sin"  and  "Cremation".  8/5  out  of  10.

Memory/An Archetype's Suffering/2014 Compilation Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  compilation  from  Memory  which  shows  the  band  sticking  to  a  more  experimental  direction  with  the  recording  being  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "An  Archetype's  Suffering".

  Electronic  and  ethnic  music  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  and  loops  which  leads  up  to  some  spoken  word  parts  and  experimental  sounds  and  noises  being  added  onto  the  recording  and  they  also  bring  in  a  13  minute  long  track  which  also  shows  some  melodic  and  distorted  guitar  work.

  Ambient  elements  are  a  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  after  awhile  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  which  also  leads  up  to  the  music  becoming  more  psychedelic  in  sound  and  as  the  ep  progresses  you  can  hear  some  drones  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  doom  metal  feeling.

  On  the  3rd  track  the  music  starts  going  into  a  more  harsh  noise  direction  which  they  also  mix  in  with  dark  ambient  and  demonic  vocals  in  the  background  which  are  close  to  black  metal  and  the  following  track  sees  the  band  adding  in  more  electric  guitars  which  also  mix  in  with  the  more  experimental  side  of  the  bands  music  as  the  album  progresses  and  the  last  song  sees  the  band  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  neo-folk  elements.

  Memory  changes  their  style  around  a  bit  this  time  adding  in  more  distorted  guitars  and  metal  influences  while  also  remaining  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding all  at  the  same  time,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  there  are  no  lyrics  with  the  music  being  mostly  instrumental.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  compilation  from  Memory  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  with  elements  of  drone  and  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Life  Before  Earth"  and  "River  Of  Sin".  8  out  of  10.

Memory/The First Room/2014 Compilation Album Review

  Memory  are  a  band  from  Seattle,  Washington  that  plays  a  very  experimental  and  hard  to  classify form  of  music  with  some  doom  and  black  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  compilation  album  "The  First  Room".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  it  gives  the  music  an  avant  garde  feeling  and  they  also  use  a  mixture  of  open  notes  and  full  chords  and  after  awhile  experimental,drone  and  ambient  sounds  are  added  into  the  music  and  after  the  first  track  which  is  over  17  minutes  the  songs  start  getting  short  in  length.

  Synths  when  they  are  added  bring  a  minimalist  feeling  to  the  recording  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  noise  music  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  tribal  sounds  that  are  done  by  natural  objects which  also  leads  up  to  a  small  amount  of  psychedelic  sounds  being  mixed  in  with  the  more  experimental  side  of  their  music  and  one  of  the  last  track  acoustic  guitars  make  a  return  and  they  have  a  folk  music  feeling  to  them.

  Memory  creates  some  very  interesting  sounding  music  that  is  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  while  also  having  a  dark  atmosphere  that  would  be  at  home  on  a  black  or  doom  metal  album,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  lo-fi  while  lyrics  when  they  are  utilized  cover  depressive  themes..

  In  my  opinion  Memory  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  First  Room"  and  "The  Room  With  White  Statues".  8  out  of  10.
