Mesmur are an international band with members from Australia, Italy and the United States that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very atmospheric form of funeral doom/death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Terrene" which was released by Solitude Productions.
Clean playing and synths start off the album along with some drum beats a few seconds later while the synths also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling as well as the heavier riffs also being very heavily rooted in funeral doom metal and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with some cellos and flutes also being added into certain sections of the recording, spoken word parts can also be heard in some parts of the music and sound effects are also being used briefly as well as all of the music also sticking to a slower direction.
On this recording Mesmur remains true to the atmospheric style of funeral doom/death metal that was established on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Sumerian and Mesopotamian Mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mesmur and if you are a fan of atmospheric funeral doom/death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Terra ishtar" and "Caverns Of Edimmu". 8 out of 10.
