Shadoworld are a duo from Italy that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on the recording plays a mixture of dark folk, neo-classical, western and modern electronica and this is a review of their 2019 album "Desertland" which was released by the White Room Netlabel.
Acoustic guitars start off the album and also bring in elements of neo-folk while all of the vocals are done in a clean style. Harmonicas are also a very huge part of the recording along with the synths also taking the music into a darker direction when they are utilized as well as the music also adding in some electronica elements.
Western music influences can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with some programmed beats also being utilized at times. All of the tracks also sound very different from each other, spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the music and as the album progresses a brief use of lap steel guitars can also be heard and a later track also introduces electric guitars onto the recording.
On this recording Shadoworld takes dark folk, neo-classical, western and modern electronica and mixes them together to create something very different from their previous album. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover deserts and western themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Shadoworld and if you are a fan of dark folk, neo-classical, Western and modern electronica, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Place Called Home" "No More Faith" "Empty Rooms" and "I'm Alive". 8 out of 10.
