  New  York's  Gridfailure  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  experimental,  dark  ambient,  noise,  drone,  industrial  and  dark  hardcore  with  elements  of  avant  jazz,  Americana,  classical,  techno,  folk  and  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Sixth  mass-Extinction  Skulduggery  III{'  which  was  released  by  Nefarious  Industries.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  samples  and  dark  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  captures  a  post  apocalyptic  atmosphere  while  clean  plating  is  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  black  metal  screams  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

  Each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  add  in  touches  of  folk  music  and  Americana  when  they  are  utilized.  Industrial  style  shouts  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album  along  with  the  electric  guitars  also  enhancing  the  extreme  metal  and  dark  hardcore  style  of  the  recording  when  they  are used.

  Programmed  beats  which  add  in  touches  of  industrial  and  techno  and  jazz  style  instrumentation  are  also  introduced  on  a  few  tracks  along  with clear  vocals  also  being  used  at  times.  A  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  briefly.  Drones  and  electronic  noises  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  experimental  approach  and  when  pianos  are  introduced  they  add  in  classical  music  influences  while  the  production  also  sounds  very  dark.

  U.S.A's  solo  project  Dodssang  Tempel  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  occult  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Hymns  From  The  Chapel  Morgue"  which  was  released  by  Cursed  Monk  Records.

  Clear  chants  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  harsh  noises  and  power  electronics  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  adds  in  the  brutality  of  death  industrial  while  each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  sticking  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction.

  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  touches  of  Teutonic  space  music  with  some  cosmic  touches  while  the  album  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments.  Some  of  the  music  is  also  suitable  for  meditation's  along  with  the  heavier  and  distorted  side  of  the  album  also  adding  in  elements  of  black  and  doom  metal  

  On  this  recording  Dosssang  Tempel  brings  out  a  very  diverse  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics  as  well  as   mixing  in  the  ritualistic  side  of  black  and  doom  metal  to  create  something  very  different.  The  production  ouds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Blasphemy.

Monotone Monk/Withering Of Reality's Presence/Ominous Sounds/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Monotone  Monk  are  a  solo  project  from  Spain  that  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  post  industrial  and  ritual  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Withering  Of  Reality's  Presence"  which  was  released  by  Ominous  Sounds.

  Dark  ambient  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drones  a  few  seconds  later  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie  soundtrack  and  on  some  of  the  tracks  the  recording  goes  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction.

  A  lot  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction  while  the  album  also  has  its  experimental  moments.  Industrial  style  beats  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  when  voices  are  added  into  the  background  they  also  enhance  the  occult  atmosphere  o  the  music  as  well  as  some  of  music  also  bringing  in  the  more  evil  and  atmospheric  side  of  black  metal  without  the  heavier  sections.

  Monotone  Monk  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  dark  ambient,  drone,  experimental,  post  industrial  and  ritual  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  are  rooted  in  esotericism  and  desolation  with  some  inspiration  from  the  writings  of  Julius  Evola  and  the  paintings  of  Ferri.

  In  my  opinion  Montone  Monk  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  experimental,  post  industrial  and  ritual  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Traversing  Sensory  Deserts"  "Mirrors  And  Nooses"  and  "Flesh  Departure".  8  out  of  10.

  Demonologists  are  a  duo  from  Indiana  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  death  industrial,  blackened  noise  and  horror  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  "Rakshasa"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Aesthetic  Death  and  Phage  Tapes.

  Power  electronics  and  atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  the  synths  bring  in  more  of  a  dark  ambient  style.  After  awhile  industrial  beats  and  harsh  noises  start  making  their  presence  known  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  at  times  and  black  metal  screams  and  demonic  growls  are  also  used  at  times.

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  a  couple  of  tracks also  adds  in  a small  amount  of  spoken  word  and  horror/sci-fi  movie  samples.  The  album  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments  along  with  the  heavier  guitars  also  expanding  on  the  extreme  metal  influence  when  they  are  also  introduced  onto  the  recording  and  some  songs  also  add  in  touches  of  goth  rock  and  EBM.

  On  this  recording  Demonologists  take  black  metal,  harsh  noise,  death  industrial,  dark  ambient,  ritual,  experimental,  EBM  and  goth  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  release.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  horror,  self  destruction  and  death  themes.

  Power  electronics  and  dark  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  harsh  noises  and  death  industrial  style  brutality.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  sounds  improvised  while  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  harsh  noise  walls  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  tortured  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  apocalyptic  sounding  while  the  calmer  sections  of  the  album  also  add  in  a  touch  of  krautrock.  Each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  sticking  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction.

  Power  electronics  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  drones  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  lot  of  industrial  style  beats.

  At  times  the  music  also  brings  in  a  dark  ambient  orientated  atmosphere  while  the  album  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  an  atmospheric  touch  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  some   noises  and  each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other.

  Locrian  are  a  band  from  Chicago,  Illinois  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  drone,  dark  ambient,  experimental,  avant  garde  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "End  Terrain"  which  was  released  by  Profound  Lore  Records.

  Distorted  soundscapes  and  heavy  riffing  starts  off  the  album  while  the  harsh  vocals  bring  in  elements  of  black  metal.  Dark  ambient  syn5ths  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  when  the  music  speeds  up.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  clear  vocals  bringing  in  more  of  a  post  rock  style  when t hey  are utilized.  All  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  touches  of  noise  and  shoegaze.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  a  future  earth  consumed  by  waste.

  Den  Sorte  Dod  are  a  duo  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  ritual,  black  ambient  and  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Underganden"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Ambient  style  keyboards  which  also  adds  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  start  off  the  album  while  also  bringing  in  elements  of  dungeon  synth  onto  the  recording.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along with  some  programmed  beats  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album.  

  All  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  the  music  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments.  At  times  the  recording  also  captures  the  dark  atmosphere  of  black  metal  along  with  the  whole  album  also  sticking  to  an  instrumental  direction  along  with  some  songs  also  showing  an  influence  of  krautrock.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Demonologists  and  Dodssang  Tempel  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Pahage  Tapes  and  Liquid  Death  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Demonologists  a   solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  percussion  and  ambient  style  soundscapes  and  synths  before  adding  in  some  spoken  word  parts.  Power  electronics  can  be  heard  in  the  background  at times  which  also  evolve  into  harsh  sounding  noises  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  industrial  style  programmed  beats.

 All  of  the  tracks  also  sound   very  different  from  each  other   along  with  the  high  pitched  screams  and  whispers  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  the robotic  also  bring  in  a  very  sci-fi  orientated  atmosphere  as  well  as  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.,  female  vocals can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  occultism  and  darkness. 

  In  my  opinion  Demonologist  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "Skull  Crawler"  and  "Ascendancy  Of  hell".

  Next  up  is  Dodssang  Tempel  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  choirs  and  Gregorian  chants  before  going  into  more  of  a  harsh  noise  direction.  At  times  the  music  also  brings  in  the  more  brutal  side  of  death  industrial  along  with  the  power  electronics  also  adding  in  some  atmospheric  touches  on  later  tracks  while  each  song  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  Dodssang  Tempel  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  industrial,  harsh  noise  and  power  electronics  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "SLAKLE  I"  and  "SKJENDE  II".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  death  industrial, harsh  noise  and  power  electronics.

Locrian/New Catastrophism/Profound Lore Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Locrian  are  a  band  from  Chicago,  Illinois  that  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  drone,  experimental  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "New  Catastrophism"  which  was  released  by  Profound  Lore  Records.

  Drones  start  off  the  album  which  also  go  into  a  more  distorted  direction  at  times  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  along  with  the  music  also  going  into  a  very  experimental  direction  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  All  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  most  of  the album  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction.  Electric  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  they  also  add  in  influences  of  post  rock  and  extreme  metal  along  with  the  drum b eats  also  adding  in  some  aggression  when  they  are  utilized, black  metal screams  can  also be  heard  briefly  and  a  couple  of  songs  also  add  in  some  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars.

  Locrian  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  dark  ambient,  drone,  experimental  and  post  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  the  apocalypse,  urban  decay,  environmental  destruction  and  birth/death/rebirth.

  NYIÞ  are  a  musical  project  from  Iceland  that  plays  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  ambient  and  drone  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  double  album  "᛬ᚢᛁᛋᚿᛁ•ᚼᛆᛏᛁ•ᚼᚱᛅ᛬"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

  Ambient  style  synths  which  also  adds  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  and  atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Drums  can  also b e  heard  in  the  background  at  times  and  some  of  the  songs  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  while  also  mixing  in  a  very  dark  yet  haunting  atmosphere  at  times.  Guitar  orientated  drones  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  folk  instruments  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  the  use  of  black  metal  screams,  ritualistic  throat  singing  and  melodic  chants.

  Ritualistic  bell's  can  also b e  heard  briefly  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  eastern  mysticism along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  also  enhances  the  occult  atmosphere  of  the  recording,  clean  playing  and  slide  guitars  can also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  based  upon  a  17th  century  Icelandic  Grimoire. 

  In  my  opinion  NYIÞ  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  mixture  of  ambient  and  drone  and  if  you  are  a f an  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  project.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Decompose"  "Lilith"  "Fjorbrot"  and  "Rot".  8  out  of  10.

Cernichov/Dope In The Pig Bags/Ruin/Solium Records/2022 Collaboration Split EP Review

 

  Cernichov  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Belgium,  Italy  and  U.S.A  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  they  tram  up  with  Italy's  solo  artist  Dope  In  The  Pig  Bags  and  create  a  mixture  of  noise,  drone  and  black  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  collaboration  ep  "Ruin"  which  was  released  by  Solium  Records.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  drones  and  noises  a  few  seconds  later  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  harsh  sounding  as  well  as  the  music  also  mixing  in  elements  of  black  ambient  and  both  of  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  good  amount  of  distorted  soundscapes.

 Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  both  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  an  instrumental  direction  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  second  song.

  Cernichov  and  Dope  In  the  Pig  Bags  team  up  together  and  mix  their  different  styles  together  ranging  from  noise,  black  ambient  and  drone  to  create  something  very  different  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collaboration  between  Cernichov  and  Dope  in  the  Pig  Bags  and  if  you  are  a  fan  od  noise,  drone  and  black  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Afa  Asfissiante".  8  out  of  10.

MZ412/Macht Durch Stimme/Cold Spring Records/2022 Album Re-issue Review

 

  MZ412  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  are  the  originators  of  black  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1988  album  "Macht  Durch  Stimme"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Cold  Spring  Records.

  Home  made  instruments  and  industrial  style  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later.  Power  electronics  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  harsh  noises  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  militant  sounding  while  all  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other.  The  music  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments  along  with  some  songs  also  showing  the  beginnings  of  what  would  later  evolve  into  death  industrial  as  well  as  some  tortured  voices  also  being  utilized  briefly.  

  On  this  recording  MZ12  brought  in  an  early  black/death  industrial  style  that  was  heavily  influenced  by  the  power  electronic  and  noise  styles  from  that  time  frame.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  disturbing  and  nightmare  induced  topics.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  MZ412  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  black,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ecaf  Dloc"  and  "Sequela".  8  out  of  10.

  Italy's  solo  project  Clavicvla  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  mixture  of  black  ambient  and  death  industrial  from  his  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Degeneracy  Of  The  5th  Density"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories  and  Cyclic  Law.

  Power  electronics  start  off  the  album  while  programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  song  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  drones.  Elements  of  death  industrial  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  noises  also  taking  the  music  into  a  more  ritualistic  direction  when  they  are  utilized.

  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  synths  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  dark  ambient  touches  when  they  are  added  into  the  music.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  the  atmosphere  of  an  apocalyptic  soundtrack  and  the  closing  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Clavicvla  takes  his  mixture  of  black  ambient  and  death  industrial  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  mental  images  of  horror  and  dread.

  Norway's  solo  project  Picture  Ann  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  experimental,  lo-fi  ambient  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  (Missings  And  Captures)"  which  was  released  by  Floodgate  Moods  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  lo-fi  sounding  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  all  of  the  drum  beats  also  being  programmed.  

  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  different  from  each  other  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  whispered  vocals  which  also  adds  in  touches  of  black  metal  as  well  as  most  of  the  songs  also  being  instrumentals  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  lo-fi.

Devil's Looking Glass/Treacherous Autumnal Wisdom/Moonlight Cypress Archetypes/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Devil's  Looking  Glass  are  a  musical  project  from  Tennessee  that  plays  a  mixture  of  southern  goth  and  dark  folk  music  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Treacherous  Autumnal  Wisdom"  which  was  released  by  Moonlight  Cypress  Archetypes.

  Americana  style  folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  some  tracks  also  showing  an  influence  of  country  music  as  well  as  adding  in  a  southern  gothic  atmosphere  at  times.

  When  electric  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  also  add  in  some  old  school  metal  style  solos  and  leads  as  well  as  some  melodic  riffs  which  also  gives  the  album  more  variety.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  being  instrumentals  and  the  closing  song  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Devil's  Looking  Glass  plays  a  musical  style  that takes  southern  gothic,  Americana,  country  and  dark  folk  and  mixes  them  together  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  hard  rock  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  miserable  tales  of  lost  and  woe  with  some  references  to  the  old  gods  set  in  an  Appalachian  Haze.

  In  my  opinion  Devil's  Looking  Glass  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  southern  gothic  and  dark  folk  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  musical  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Her  House"  "Paint  Mountain"  "Go  Dig  My  Grave"  and  "Wodenstag".  8  out  of  10.
