Norway's solo project Picture Ann has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of experimental, dark ambient and metal and this is a review of his 2022 ep "A Brief Excursion Into Lo-Fi Melancholy" which was released by Floodgate Moods Productions.
Dark ambient soundscapes start off the ep along with some synths a few seconds later while spoken word parts can also b e heard at times. When grim whispers are utilized they also add in a touch of black metal as well as the clean guitars also taking the music into more of an experimental direction and the whole recording also sticks to a slower direction.
On this recording Picture Ann mixes dark ambient and experimental with a touch of black metal to create a very atmospheric sounding recording. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi while the lyrics cover darkness and melancholy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Picture Ann and if you are a fan of experimental and dark ambient, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Painting October Again". 8 out of 10.
