Dodssang Tempel/Hymns From The Chapel Morgue/Cursed Monk Records/2025 Full Length Review

U.S.A's  solo  project  Dodssang  Tempel  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  occult  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Hymns  From  The  Chapel  Morgue"  which  was  released  by  Cursed  Monk  Records.

Clear  chants  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  harsh  noises  and  power  electronics  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  adds  in  the  brutality  of  death  industrial  while  each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  sticking  to  more  of  an  instrumental  direction.

When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  touches  of  Teutonic  space  music  with  some  cosmic  touches  while  the  album  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments.  Some  of  the  music  is  also  suitable  for  meditation's  along  with  the  heavier  and  distorted  side  of  the  album  also  adding  in  elements  of  black  and  doom  metal

On  this  recording  Dosssang  Tempel  brings  out  a  very  diverse  mixture  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics  as  well  as   mixing  in  the  ritualistic  side  of  black  and  doom  metal  to  create  something  very  different.  The  production  ouds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Blasphemy.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dodssang  Tempel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  harsh  noise,  death  industrial  and  power  electronics,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Banging  Down  The  Gates  Of  Heaven"  and  "The  Truth  Of  His  Lies".  8  out  of  10.

Necronomicon/The Demos/Vic Records/2024 Compilation Album Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  compilation  album  which  contains  the  early  demo's  from  Germany's  Necronomicon  which  where  released  in  1985  and  showed  the  music  mixing  the  first  wave  black  metal  style  with  the  German  Teutonic  thrash  metal  sound  of  that  era  and  the  recordings  where  released  as  a  single  album  by  Vic  Records.

The  sounds  of  war  start  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  very  fast  aggression  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast b eats.  Vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  classic  thrash  metal  style  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  first  wave  black  metal  style.

Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  more  rooted  in a   thrash/speed  metal  style,  the  bass  guitars  get  more  powerful  sounding  then  the  first  demo  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  blackened  style,  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.

On  these  demo's  Necronomicon  took  the  first  wave  black  metal  style  of  the  early  80's  and  mixed  it  with  the  more  traditional  German  thrash  metal  of  their  home  country.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Death,  Evil  and  Destruction  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Necronomicon  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  black  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Genocide"  "Danger"  "Possessed  By  Evil"  and  "Bloody  Revenge".  8  out  of  10.

BlackWeald Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the musical project these days?

I've just released "666 Minutes in Hell", which is an 11+ hours Dark Ambient concept album about hell. It was really exhausting to finish it. As with any work, there is a fun part and a not-so-fun part. The creative part was of course fun as hell, but the technical nuances were overwhelming. I usually enjoy the mixing phase, but with 11 hours of material, it was quite taxing. So I'm happy that I could finally move on.

Right now I'm compiling a mixtape kind of release for the project, which won't be a usual Dark Ambient album, but rather a drone metal / experimental release.

I've also started collecting materials and ideas for the next major release, which will be a Bloodborne inspired ambient album.

Additionally, a song of mine, titled "Kapteyn's Darkness" will be featured on an upcoming Eighth Tower Records' compilation.

I don't work on more than one projects in parallel, although I have a huge backlog of concepts that I want to execute, so I wish I'd have more time and energy to do so.

2.Recently you have released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Well, as I'm only at the beginning of my journey as a musician in this genre, I'm always finding and incorporating new elements. On "666 Minutes in Hell", I had piano segments, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, spoken word, harsh vocals. I've also used several new ideas from the audio engineering point of view, and just the sheer volume of the project was new. This album, in itself, is I think 2 or 3 times longer than all the other materials I've released combined.

3. The new album was also 666 minutes in length, what was the decision behind making an album that long and how long did the recording process take to record an album of that portion?

I had planned to make a long album without any concept already, and I also had the idea of a hell concept album. When I started collecting materials and composing for the latter, I realized that this is going to be that very long album.

Initially, it was titled 6.6 hours in Hell, but as I was working on it, it grew to almost 16 hours, so by the end, I had to cut 5 hours out to fit into the re-titled 666 minutes concept. It took about half a year to make the album from the first sounds till the day it got released.

4.A a lot of the song themes deal with the occult, Satanism and the dark arts, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics and also how long have you had an interest in the occult?

First, answering the questions regarding interest in dark topics, I've always been this way from childhood. I believe it's just the nature of some people to be attracted towards these topics. It's great to find like minded people around the word and share this passion, either as a listener or as a musician, or in other arts like painting, literature, films, etc. Personally, I don't wanna pose as a minister in the Church of Satan, rather I'm just a casual consumer (and sometimes producer) of these topics. It's unrelated to faith, as I'm quite interested in Abrahamic religions as well, even though I despise them. In short, anything mystical, unexplained, unusual, weird, extreme, I'm interested, be it serial killers, anything ancient, religions, cosmology, .., you name it.

Regarding faith, I do not hold a strong faith towards anything, although I highly value the individualist nature of Satanism. It just makes the most sense to me as a way of life. Although people nowadays already have a strong "me, me, me" attitude, that's a twisted way of viewing individualism. The individualist viewpoint should also believe that all the people around you are probably completely different from you, and they have every right to be so, and them, as individuals, should be respected just as much as yourself.

People are different, in every way, and no communal viewpoint will work for everyone. Even on the biological level, what medicine works for you, might not work for me, not to mention as complex things as thoughts, interests, preferences, etc. By this nature, we have a very small chance of properly understanding what others want and feel, especially if they are not close to us. So I find it mind boggling when a person interacts with another one thinking that his own beliefs and preferences apply to everyone. If it causes no harm to you, you have no right to judge another person's way of life. Be it a preference of rather ordering food instead of cooking, or having a footjob kink.

Another important thing I'm trying to apply to myself, is accepting that there are behaviours and instincts that millions of years of evolution and hundreds of thousands of years of tribalism had on a human. We only recently, in the last few thousand years started to live in such societies resembling our current way of living. Simply disregarding ancient behaviours that are deeply coded into you, or just simply labeling them "evil", that isn't the proper way to manage them. Especially in our current culture where major entities act as the "thought police".

I'm not saying we should live like animals or as a tribesman, but in order to decipher yourself, you need to foster these ideas, instead of suppressing them like you are told to. "Why am I doing this? Why am I feeling this way? People tell me that it's an evil, or at least a wrong feeling. Then why am I having it? Am I a wrong person? Or is it in my nature? Why is it in my nature?".  You don't have to act upon these thoughts and feelings, but without understanding where they come from (to which often the answers are simply evolutionary or tribal), you cannot take control over them.

In short, find out your interests, beliefs, thoughts, kinks, way of life. As long as it hurts no one, live up to them. Find people who you feel in fellowship. Give it to yourself and also let others live the life they want.

On a greater scheme of faith, nobody has any idea. It would be great to crack the mysteries of consciousness, matter, spacetime, multiverses, life, but I am quite certain these won't be solved, at least not in my lifetime. Still, any of these are great topics to delve into and consider all the possible theories.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The artwork of "666 Minutes in Hell" is 100+ images of dark entities, objects, architecture and feelings, presented in an ancient, bleak way. I cannot explain it further, not because I intentionally want to be obscure, just, I have no words for it. It's the same with music, I think what actually drives you to create any art, is because you cannot express your thoughts and feelings in simple words. So you make music, paint something, or wrap it in a written story.

6.Since 2020 you have also released a great amount of music with this progress., do you spend a great amount of time writing and creating music?

Not as much as I'd like to. I think the key is to work on the material every single day. Especially because I believe most musicians get tired after a few hours, both creatively and also your ears. At least for me, I cannot spend a whole day working on music, rather do it in small chunks, but I try to do that every single day. Like how they tell writers to be consistent, and write X pages every day.

7.Would you also be open to bringing this musical project onto the live stage if the opportunity ever came?

Due to the nature of how my music is composed, it would not make much sense, at least for now. Just stepping up and pressing "play" would be pretty fake. Also, I think this kind of music is rather better experienced in seclusion.

Like, I've seen Sunn O))) a few times live, but it was more like a pilgrimage to undergo their wall of sound, rather than a regular metal live show.

8.You have also mentioned being interested in the writings of Lovecraft and science fiction, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

No wonder Lovecraft (and King as well) are known outside of the circle of horror fanatics, their impact is undeniable. I especially connect with Lovecraft's work with his enquiry about primeval topics and his view on humanity as insignificant.

As for sci-fi specifically, while I was writing the Leonov album, I realized how much I enjoy working with futuristic and modern sounds, opposed to the archaic sounding music I made before that. It doesn't matter whether it's set in the past or future, if it's mystical, otherworldly and dark, it fits my vision.

9.You also mention that you also write your own horror stories, what are some of the stories you have written so far for this genre and how does your version of horror differ from other authors?

I've publicized those short stories under a different name, and I'm still unsure whether I like to tie these hobbies together. Fact is, I'm not a native English speaker, which does not cause problems during business or private conversations, but in writing, my "style" in English comes off as weird and immature. The lack of vocabulary makes it dry, and the grammar mistakes come through immediately.

In addition, I of course cannot work as efficiently as with my native tongue. As with music, I think being efficient is a key component in fulfilling your creativity. If it only takes 5 seconds checking out how two sounds combined together sound, then you can experiment a lot, but if it would take 2 minutes, you might say "ah, nevermind, fuck that", and by that, limit your creative output.

It's tough, as I love writing, I've been working as a music journalist in the past and have written fiction in several genres. So even if my ideas are worth it, the execution is hardly professional. I might create a website for these stories in the future, just to catalog them nicely.

10.You also have played in black and death metal bands, how would you compare that to the dark ambient style that you are currently playing?

I more and more get the feeling that playing in a black metal band and doing BlackWeald are not even comparable. Although metal elements and influence often sneak into this project, this is mostly a digital project, composed in a way similar to electronic music. Even if I record guitars or anything live, I usually loop it and manipulate the shit out of it.

Plugging your guitar into the amplifier, screaming into the microphone, while the drummer blasts loudly, all in an analog way, embracing any mistakes you make during the performance, well, this is totally different than zooming your eyes on an automation clip to make a half a second of an audio clip 0.5 dB louder. These two ways of making and playing music have not intersected for me, at least for now.

Even on my upcoming release, where there are a few metal-ish tracks, those are not composed in the way metal music is made. At least I'm not aware of people using 808s in a funeral doom track. I rather consider this experimental music, distorted guitars aren't exclusively metal music. Especially that most of the "distorted guitar sound" I make isn't even guitar-based, but synth-based. I dislike noise music, but love distorted sounds and screeching feedbacks, so I'm pretty sure I'd use these more when it fits the concept of a song.

11.Are you also open to working with a record label in the future?

I don't think so. I'm greedy enough of my IPs, that I don't want to transfer any rights or control of it to someone else. Still, it would be amazing to be part of such a community like Cryo Chamber, but I don't think my work fits their catalog, neither in style nor in quality.

12.Do you have any plans to release more albums in 2021?

Of course! Time will tell how fast can I work on the upcoming projects, as I'm approaching a quite busy period in my life. Still, I'm sure the Bloodborne ambient album will happen before summer, then a few experimental EPs, and hopefully a sci-fi/space ambient till the end of the year.

I also plan to do some late-Earth style record, then something more beat-driven industrial. If the urge comes, these might happen sooner than planned.

Taking part in collaborations (not necessarily with Dark Ambient musicians) is on the bucket list as well, but that's for much later. Anyhow, quick compilation works are always welcome, as working with limitations always sparks up creativity.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for the opportunity to share these words and thanks for everyone who supported this project so far.

Kalmo Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the musical project since the recording and release of the new ep?

After releasing debut EP Demoni I was pretty worn out from all the work done for recording, art work, releasing, marketing, working on press releases etc. I took a few months’ rest from playing and working on Kalmo. During autumn 2019 I worked on few new songs and recorded demo versions of those. Early December I released the Khreestmas song and music video. The song is a traditional Khreestmas carol that I dragged through the dark dungeons of hell and mutated it in the darkness into a Kalmo version. That was a tasty small musical and video production snack before diving into working new material. Here is the link to the music video: https://youtu.be/p8EM1XT2ufI

2.In 2019 you had released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

The Demoni is a sinful absolution for Kalmo’s early history. It summarizes and concludes an episode in Kalmo’s story. Some of the EP’s songs are from very early years and some have been written within the past two years. I felt internal pressure to get some of the songs recorded and published as a release in order to be able to move forward to something new.  And that new material I am working on at the moment.

3.Some of your lyrics touch on Satanism and Occultism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those topics?

Darkness is more attractive than light. It is mystical, unpredictable and unexplained. People tend to fear it. Where there is fear there is also an element of temptation into that. That two-folded mix of feelings draws the human mind towards darker topics and stories. I do not consider myself satanist as such. I am more of an atheist who is very much interested in the darker forms and stories.

4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with your music?

The hollowness and the two co-existing sides of human nature are an excellent source for lyrics. It is difficult to say exactly where the ideas come from. It may sometimes even be a nice akward word that triggers the idea for the lyrics. Back to the human mind. Even if someone claims to be pure good, there is darkness somewhere inside. For some people it is in deeper than others, but everyone has that dark corner in the soul. The end and the void after the ultimate end, the creeping feeling of despair carving you inside when you realise that there is nothing after this is something I am exploring and learning to capsulate into the lyrics.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Kalmo'?

Kalmo a relatively new word in Finnish derived from the old word kalma meaning death. Kalmo means cadaver in English. When thinking of a proper name, instead of a work-in-process intermediate names, for the project I wanted it to be short, simple and brutal. A pile of flesh and bones with no life in it is brutal enough, isn’t it. It encapsulates also human’s fear of death. Once selfhood has ended, there is only cold body. That is all that is left, until it turns to dust and all you were a moment ago is gone and soon forgotten.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

I consider cover art to be animportant part of music releases. Unfortunately, during the digital age cover art is not that important anymore. However, the rise of interest in vinyl brings this important aspect back. For the cover of Demoni EP I wanted to have a demonic character to match to the EP’s name. Demoni means Demon in English. The other thing I wanted was for the style to be more of an old school kind of art style. What colors better match this purpose than red and black and a small dose of white as highlight color? For the CD version of Demoni, which is 4 panel digipack including a booklet, there is also inside cover art.

Already at this point of time, I have a draft idea for the next release’s cover image. And there is a cunning plan to introduce the idea of that cover art as part of something else before releasing the record itself. Watch out you metalheads out there! \m/

7.With this musical project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

I have worked with other people on other music related projects. I did play bass in a blues band for 17 years. We had the same group through that 17 years. Then I was a board member of a local blues association for about 5 years. After that when thinking about where to direct my musical energy, I was thinking, what about taking the doom metal project out from the drawer. I thought that I would keep this all mine and only mine. At this moment Kalmo is my kingdom. Perhaps in the very distant future there might be a slight possibility to have other musicians working with me. Of course, there are other people involved already now as I cannot do all and everything on my own and I also need teaching in music to be able to develop further. Mari, my loved one, she helps me with press releases, checks interview texts, and has done masking and taken all promo pictures so far. Then Kalmo’s trusted and well-praised master behind mixing and mastering: Runar Magnussen. He has realized the vision of the sound for Kalmo extremely well. I am very happy to work with him. Then, my guitar teacher and singing teacher both are excellent mentors guiding me on my way learning music and how to express myself and Kalmo’s musical vision.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

That can be considered at some point in the future. It would be very nice to get signed to a label. However, I think Kalmo needs to mature bit more before it is ready for signing for a label. Anyway, Kalmo is open for ideas and proposals.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of doom metal?

The reactions have been two-fold. Some people and reviewers have received it well and have given quite good reviews. On the flip side, there have been people who have not liked the style or the songs. And that all is fine. Kalmo pushes towards the end of this all with the chosen path of doom. Distils dark hymns from the darkness and vomits them to releases from time to time, no matter how people take them.

I am very humbled, happy and grateful for the support Kalmo and its music has received from the metal community, reviewers, bloggers and heavy metal publications. Kalmo raises a skull to you all! \m/

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

The next release is in the works. The goal is to release a 5 or 6 tracks EP during 2020. With all the daily work and other duties it will most likely be late 2020. Hopefully the creative process will be fed with dismal visions and murky tunes!

The intention is to work on more releases as Kalmo goes on and evolves. The desire is to develop even more dark and brutal sound, lyrics and music over time. If everything goes well and humanity keeps going towards its doom, perhaps then the 3rd release will be full length. In addition, I have a vision to produce a vinyl release. Perhaps, that may be the 3rd one. We will see what will happen.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I love to listen the old school bands and bring that sound and style to Kalmo’s music. Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon are on the top of my list. In addition to that, to mention a few, Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Slayer, King Diamond are very important bands for me. Then Vorum, Galvanizer, Death Breath, Master, Immortal the list could go on and on. The latest additions to my list of bands in rotation are Cianide, Ossuarium, Putrid Offal and Depravity.

In addition to different genres of metal I love to listen to blues, old school rock’n’roll, psychobilly and some classical music. The Cramps is a band that was able to express so much with so little. The way the Cramps arranged their music pleases my ear. I want to harvest some inspiration to Kalmo’s musical style from that.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I love to do things by hand. Classic American cars have been a part of my life for quite a long time. At the moment I have 1958 Buick Century. Unfortunately, I haven’t had that much time to work on it and it has been sitting in the garage for about 3 years now. We’ll see when the V8 roars again. 3D graphics and animation is something I am obsessed now. I see it as an excellent capability to be utilized for Kalmo’s music video production. Some of the results of this can be found from music videos Mustaa and the Hell Awaits Ye Rotten Servants. And also the quick and dirty Demon quality, Low fidelity version of Show Me Your Face music video. Continuing with doing by hand: currently I am renovating my 3rd oldish house. That takes a lot of time and burns nerves from both ends :-D

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I do not want to sound like I’m an on a soapbox when saying this, but I consider this to be an important message.

Just would like to urge you all to support your local bands. Go listen to their live gigs and buy their records. That 10 bucks they ask for a ticket or a record is not much, but it means a lot a local act. Like and share their social media feed, that is free support you all can give.

Thank you all who have supported Kalmo on its journey so far!

And, yes….. Stay doomed! \m/

Kalmo/Demoni/2019 EP Rebiew

Kalmo  are  a  solo  project  from  Finland  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  doom  metal  with  some  death  and  black  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019  ep  "Demoni".

A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  a  very  grim  style  that  is  very  close  to  black  metal  but  with  a  first  wave  touch.

The  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  80's  and  90's  influences  while  still  maintaining  a  very  modern  atmosphere.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  old  school  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

Kalmo  plays  a  style  of doom  emtal  that  is  very  slow,  heavy  and  traditional  sounding  while  also  adding  in  some  old  school  death  and  black  metal  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  this  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  Kalmo  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  doom  metal  solo  project  with  some  black  and  death  metal  influences  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Piru"  and  "Show  me  Your  Face".8  out  of  10.

Sektarism/Hosanna Sathana/Zanjeer Zani Productions/Necrocosm Productions/2018 Vinyl Re-Issue Review

Sektarism  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of    their  2011  demo  "Hosanna  Sathana"  which  was  re-issued  on  vinyl  in  2018  as  a  joint  effort  by  Zanjeer  Zani  and  Necrocosm  Productions.

Drum  beats  and  a  powerful  sounding   bass  guitar  start  off  the  demo  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  track  is  over  24  minutes  in  length  as  well  as  the  slow  riffs  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  funeral  doom  metal  and  when  screams  are  utilized  they  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal.

Elements  of  drone  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  gets  ritualistic  in  some  parts  of  the  song  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  an  improv  atmosphere  and  the  music  always  sticks  to  a  very  slow  direction.  as  well  as  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  angry  shouts  and  towards  the  end  guitar  leads  are  also  used  briefly.

On  this  recording  Sektarism  takes  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Religion  and  Submission  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sektarism  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  drone  and  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  8  out  of  10.

Dark Awake/Atropos Of Eudaimonia/Dornwald Records/2017 CD Review

Greece's  solo  project  Dark  Awake  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  his  mixture  of  ritual,  neo-classical,  martial,  neo-folk  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "Atropos  Of  Eudoimonia"  which  was  released  by  Dornwald  Records.

Dark  ambient  style  synths  along  with  some  elements  of  harsh  noise  and  martial  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  female  choir  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  the  more  underground  side  of  industrial  at  times  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  Gregorian  chants.

At  times  the  music  gets  very  ritualistic  and  occult  sounding  while  oriental  style  folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  being  very long  and  epic  in  length  and  there  is  also  a  cover  of  Sol  Invictus's  "Kneel  To  The  Cross"  which  also  introduces  clean  male  vocals  onto  the  recording.

Throughout  the  recording  the  music  also  incorporates   a  great  amount  neo-classical  elements  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  all  of  the  songs  sound  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  one  track  also  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  gets  more  experimental.

Dark  Awake  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  his  mixture  of  ritual,  neo-classical,  martial,  dark  ambient  and  neo  folk,  the  production  sound s very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  O.N.A  Satanism,  Alchemy,  Persian  Occultism,  and  Greek/Hermetic  themes.

Sektarism Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

Armrek: We are working on the next album, music is already recorded and artwork is almost done. The next ceremony will be located in French Pyrenees mountains, September 29th, it will be a very special fest with entities like Stile Volk, Ingrid Obled, Gouffre, Carne, to name a few...

2.Recently you have released a new alum, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

« La Mort de l'Infidèle » keep the ritualistic basis of Sektarism, working on trance and devotion, it is Holy Ritual Doom. On this album the sound is far more powerful, the work was done at the Drudenhaus studio, and even if we recorded live as we do on all previous Sektarism's offerings, the great technical abilities of Xort and it's artistic comprehension of what we want at the moment make it clearly effective.

3.All of the other band members also play in black and death metal bands but with this project you go into more of a funeral doom metal direction, how would you compare the 3 different styles?

With Sektarism, we do not do typical doom metal as it is commonly understood, nor funeral doom as the music itself consists on a ritual, even if we play heavy parts, of course.
Someone could say: « why not to play all those styles in only one band as Malhkebre evolve on a close spiritual path? ». To give a simple answer, the interior energy and the imagination necessary to give birth of these creations is not the same at all, and Sektarism, Malhkebre, Malekhamoves are emanations of our multifaceted art.

4.What is the form of Satanism that you bring into the lyrical topics of the albums?

It is about the revelation, the madness brought to Man when this one is close to the breath of the Almighty. It is clearly a sinister and negative form of satanism, and the goal is to reach a level of clear-sightedness, an ecstatic elevation from the abyss... Sektarism is at the same time the depraved man walking on the faustian path and the ascetic religious man crushed by the merciless glory of God.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sektarism'?

We took a simple and evocative term, Sektarism is the modus operandi we choose to express our visions. Anyone who saw us on stage can understand it, we are a sect with it's apostles and with it's disciples. May the Lord bless us...

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

It is a hard question, I am not the right person to describe the result I provoke myself. One of the best performance we done is certainly the last one on Le Rex, Toulouse because of the great venue, the impressive sound and the good amount of spectators. Les Voûtes, Paris was a particular ritual because of the intense devotion from both the band and the audience.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

In fact we are discussing with several individuals/bands about a tour, if you read this and want to do something with Sektarism, feel free to contact us.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of funeral doom metal?

Extreme. It is notable that people hate us or love us, which is fine, as Sektarism is not following an easy and common path. Temperance, moderation are are not fitting words to describe our quest, so it is logical that some reviews are awful, ahah! Most important is to see some novices staring wide-eyed after a gig, showing that we are not preaching in the desert...

9.Are you happy with the support 'Necrocosm' has given you so far?

E. Berzerk, the vocalist, is running Necrocosm with the precious help of the disciples of Sektarism N. Kapalika and Vikarious H., so yes we are working like a family. By the way, Sektarism is released by Zanjeer Zani Productions, a sub-division of Necrocosm (the distributor) focusing on doom and related experimental music.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Sincerely, I don't know. Maybe we will explore deeply the ritual/ambient/noise path, maybe we will reinforce the metal side, time will tell...

11.What are some of the musical influences you bring into this band that you are not able to do with your other groups?

Hard to say, all of the band members listen to a lot of different music, from Deathspell Omega to Diamanda Gallas, from Genocide Organ to Reverend Bizarre, from Aluk Todolo to Arabrot... Surely, noise/power electronics has an impact equal to doom for me, at least on stage.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you a lot for your interest on Sektarism! AMSG!

Dreadlords/Death Angel/Not Just Religious Music/2014 CD Review

Dreadlords  are  a  band  from  Pennsylvania  that  plays  an  occult  mixture  of  blues  and  Americana  with  a  touch  of  psychedelic  black  metal  and  experimental  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Death  Angel"  which  was  released  by  Not  Just  Religious  Music.

A  very  dark,  distorted  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  blues  rock  style  vocals  and  the  music  is  very  slow  and  also  brings  in  a  heavier  style  of  blues  rock  and  Americana  that  has  rarely  been  done  and  the  vocals  also  bring  in  black  metal  screams  at  times  along  with  a  great  amount  of  ritualistic  elements  being  added  into  the  tracks.

At  times  the  music  speeds  up  a  bit  with  the  guitars  utilizing  tremolo  picking  while  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  darker  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  clean  parts  that  bring  in  a  60's  sound  to  the  recording  while  the  lyrical  approach  is  much  more  darker  and  evil  than  what  was  attempted  during  that  time  era  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

Dreadlords  takes  the  blues  rock  and  Americana  genres  and  make  them  more  distorted  with  electric  guitars  and  influences  from  black  metal  and  noise  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Necromancy,  Anti  Christian  and  Norse  Paganism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Dreadlords  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  heavy  occult  blues/metal  and  Americana  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Going  to  The  Will"  "Born  into  the  Arms"  "Thieves  in  Faith"  and  "Take  My  Soul".  8  out  of  10.

"(no  edit,  just  raw  sounds,  no  return,  like  to  live,  like  suicide)'  which  is  the  last  song  on  his  side  of  the split  starts  up  with  dark  ambient  sounds  which  later  get  more  harsh  sounding  once  the  loops  and  power electronics  kick  in.

Song  themes  cover,  darkness,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  harsh,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Earhead  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  and  harsh  sounding  noise,  you  should  check out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Please,   Delete  Me  From  This  Life!".  RECOMMENDED.

Next  up  is  Iky  Iky  an  artist  that  plays  a  very  harsh  form  of  noise.

Song  themes  cover  darkness,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,   harsh,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Iky  Iky  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  harsh  noise  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  music.  RECOMMENDED.

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  dark  and  harsh  sounding  noise.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
