Picture Ann are a solo project from Denmark that has been featured before in this zine and plays a lo-fi and experimental form of dark ambient with elements of black metal and this is a review of his 2015 album "The Darkness Had Texture" which was released by Floodgate Moods Productions.
Dark ambient, shoegaze sounds and heavy guitars start off the album along with a great amount of synths and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and on some of the tracks clean playing can be heard while the programmed drum beats are a very huge part of the recording and a couple of tracks are very long and epic in length.
Distorted noises are added into certain sections of the recording and a lot of the clean guitars also gives the music more of a progressive feeling when they are utilized along with each track having a different sound of its own and as the album progresses guitar leads and black metal influences can be heard at times and all of the tracks are instrumental.
Picture Ann creates another experimental and lo-fi sounding dark ambient album that also brings in heavy guitars and black metal influences and the production has a very dark and raw sound while it does have a powerful atmosphere at times.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Picture Ann and if you are a fan ox experimental, dark ambient and black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Darkness had Texture" and "You Use The Word Like A Curse". 8 out of 10.
