This album shows Andrew Liles of Current 93, Nurse With Wound team up with Maniac of Skitliv, and Mayhem to create an ambient recording that is a narrative on the black metal genre as w ell as being an essay and exhibition about Christophe Lord-Of-The-Logos Szpajdel and the album is called "Darkening Ligne Claire" and will be released in March by Archaeological Records.
Spoken word parts start off every track naming off the name they are paying a tribute to. Music wise the album starts out in a very avant garde direction along with some dark ambient soundscapes while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. At times the music also gets very atmospheric and cinematic sounding.
Distorted vocals can also be heard in some parts of the music while the songs also incorporate a great amount of synths. On the second track elements of electronic music and programmed beats are added onto the recording along with some touches of industrial and demonic voices can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
All of the tracks sound very different from each other and as the album progresses some of the music also gets more ritualistic sounding.Grim black metal screams can also be heard at times. The production sounds very dark while the song titles are each name after a black metal band with the bands being mention Emperor, Enthroned, Flagellum Dei, "Noctuary. "Slaughter Messiah, Soulburn, and Wolves In The Throne Room.
In my opinion Liles?Maniac are a very great sounding dark ambient duo and if you are a fan of this genre or black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Emperor" "Noctuary" and "Wolves In The Throne Room". 8 out of 10.
