Diminishing are a musical project with members from Texas and New York that plays a mixture of industrial, dark ambient, drone metal, harsh noise and experimental and this is a review of their 2024 album "The Unnamable" which was released by Anti-Corporate Music.
Field recordings start off the album along with some power electronics a few seconds later while the vocals are mostly high pitched screams. Growls can also be heard at times as well as the synths also adding in elements of dark ambient when they are utilized the heavy guitars are more rooted in extreme metal.
A lot of the music also sounds improvised while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. At times the album also gets very experimental sounding along with one track also introducing programmed industrial beats onto the recording. aggressive shouts can also be heard briefly as well as the synths also being done in more of a dark ambient style.
Harsh noises are also added into some sections of the recording along with one song also adding in a brief use of clean playing. All of the tracks also sound very different from other as well as the drones also giving the music more of an atmospheric touch, spoken word parts can also be heard on some of the songs and clean singing is also added on the closing track. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi while the lyrics cover existential crisis, anxiety in the face of the unknown and personal failings.
In my opinion Diminishing are a very great sounding mixture of industrial, dark ambient, drone meta, harsh noise and experimental and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this project.
