Scent Of Darkness are a solo project from Italy that plays a depressive form of funeral doom metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Insantitude" which was released by Masked Dead Records.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some synths a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music. The slower sections of the songs are very heavily rooted in funeral doom metal while the solos and leads are done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Vocals are mostly death metal growls while high pitched screams and clean singing can also be heard at times. Depressive sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as the music also showing an influence of depressive black metal at times and all of the songs also stick to a slower musical direction, classical guitars can also be heard briefly.
Scent Of Darkness plays a style of funeral doom metal which is very slow, dark and heavy as well as adding in a touch of depressive black metal to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon psychological, social experiences, depression, psychosis, abandonment, mistrust, delirium , solitude and hope.
In my opinion Scent of Darkness are a very great sounding depressive funeral doom metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Trust Issues" and "Whispers From Nowhere". 8 out of 10.
