Volkmort are a band from Brazil that plays a mixture of death and doom metal and this is a review of their 2015 cassette "Traces of Death" which was released by Wohrt Records.
A very dark sound and heavy bass guitars start off the cassette and also takes the music into a very slow doom metal direction and after a minute death metal growls start to become a huge part of the recording and at times you can hear some morbid sounding melodies being added into certain sections of the recording.
A good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also go for more of a 90's doom/death metal direction but done wit h a more raw feeling and on some of the tracks the music does speed up at times and brings in a small amount of blast beats and they also bring in an instrumental before returning back to vocals on later tracks and of of the songs also adds in a slight black metal influence along with some vocals bringing in the bestial side of that genre while the main focus remains more on a doom/death metal style.
Volkmort goes back to the early 90's styles of death and doom metal and combine the darkest sides of both genres to create their own style, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy while the lyrics cover death and war themes.
In my opinion Volkmort are a very great sounding mixture of doom and death metal with a touch of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blood, Torment Of The Soul" and "Human Plague". 8 out of 10.
