NID are a band from Italy that plays a very dark form of neo folk and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "A Fair Masquerade".
A very dark ambient around along with tribal beats starts off the album and a few seconds alter spoken word parts are added onto the recording and after the intro the music starts getting more militant and acoustic guitars are added onto the recording and also use a great amount of finger picking to create a neo folk style.
Clean singing vocals can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording the guitars also use a great amount of full chords at times and the songs also use a great amount of whispers and at times the music also brings in a 70's psychedelic and progressive rock feeling while later tracks also bring in a brief use of Gregorian chants, female vocals and electric guitar leads.
NID creates a style of neo folk that is very dark and militant and also adds in a good amount of amount elements to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover dark, occult, and melancholic themes.
In my opinion NID are a very great sounding dark neo-folk band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shattered Flowers" "Ultimo" "Loss" and "Standing Among The Ruins". 8 out of 10.
