Unmothered are a band from Texas that plays a very heavy and atmospheric mixture of doom and sludge metal with a touch of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 ep "UMBRA" which will be released in May by Crowquil Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep taking the music into more of a sludge metal direction along with some grim screams a few seconds alter that also gives the music more of a black metal feeling while still being very close to sludge and guitar leads are utilized they are very melodic and adds in a touch of post metal.
You can hear elements of hardcore and noise rock in the bands musical style and on the later tracks the music starts to speed up a bit and the whole ep sticks mostly to a very heavy and dark musical direction and on the last track the music starts adding in more melodic guitar riffing along with a brief use of clean playing and spoken word parts.
Unmothered plays a very atmospheric style of sludge metal that is very modern and also adds in a touch of black and post metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Unmothered are a very great sounding atmospheric sludge metal band with touches of black, post metal and noise rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Huntress". 8 out of 10.
